Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Seber
Hi Casey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was trick or treating with my wife and kids, we were stopped at a distant relatives house and I stayed in the car with our baby who was sleeping. I started scrolling on my phone and a reel popped up of a drone spraying crops. I have been in the agriculture business in one way or the other my whole life. I had been self employed selling and creating seed mixes. when I seen this reel I was amazed and thought… I wonder if I could spread seed with one of these drones. I went nuts for two weeks doing research about different drones, rules and regulations, wondering if the people of Utah would actually use my service. for years I had been selling seed to farmers and ranchers and often times they would ask if I had a way to broadcast their seed or if I new of a helicopter service that did so. We were just coming into our slow season and the thought of spending that much money on a “maybe” was frightening. I pulled the trigger, ordered my drone and started studying for my flight 107 pilots license. the rest is history not quite 1 year since we took our first flight and we have applicator over 11k acres.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely a huge learning curve. We have crash landed, had to redo portions of a project, broke parts, had zero acre days, a lot of frustrations. It is technology! as we all know sometimes technology is not friendly. We are at a good point now to where we have applied a wide variety of terrain and different applications. From the highest mountains in Utah to the marsh lands in the northern part of our state, Ponds, Fields, desert, Mountains and marshes we have “covered” it all.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Mountain Meadow Ag?
Previously named Mountain Meadow seed we changed our name to Mountain Meadow Ag. We are an agronomy sales 7 service business. Start to finish… We do soil samples, fertilizers, pre emergents, herbicides, pesticides, seed of all kind and varieties, even custom mixing tailored to our growers soil and needs/wants. We pride ourself on customer service, farmers and ranchers are extremely busy with multiple task on their agenda every day. if we can help alleviate some of the run around it makes us feel good. from delivering their seed right to their field/project to having a clear communication of the job we are asked to do. Before we come to applicate we know 100% what we are doing and where we are doing it, that way the grower doesn’t have to take time out of his schedule to be there. Often times our growers are excited to watch the drone work so they come and hang out for a bit and watch the drones do their thing. we are dealers for some of the best companies in the agriculture industry. Meaning we get our product at a wholesale price, we take the run around of gathering the products up, and then we can apply those products through our drones. We are the only drone service that I am aware of that offers this. Meaning we can help our growers save time and money in more ways then one. We pride ourselves on having a clear picture of what our customers want, with the team at Mtn meadow ag having grown up in agriculture we can help aid in making the right decisions that will be beneficial for the grower.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
You can find us at all of the Ag related trade shows through Utah, hopefully we can get our licensing square to be able to expand in our surrounding states.
