Exploring Life & Business with Sara Spencer of Raya

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Spencer.

Sara Spencer

Hi Sara, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started Raya in May of 2024 and I sell modest clothing, but more specifically dresses. I have always loved entrepreneurship and have started mini businesses throughout my life but Raya is much bigger than those. It all started with my love for fashion and the gospel of Jesus Christ. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, it can be super hard to find modest dresses that cover garments that are actually cute and unique. I would say I have a knack for fashion so I decided to look at what my competitors do and how I can stand out. I just love unique clothes that can grab anyone’s attention and keep that in mind when I search for dresses to sell. From June-Now (Early December) I have sold in 21 different states! It is so rewarding to see this amount of success in such a short period of time.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been rocky with lots of ups and downs. My first down was when I launched my website and didn’t get any sales. Thankfully, the next day I got two and it gave me the purpose and drive to not give up. I’ve had good months and bad months where I don’t sell a ton and it has been super hard trying to figure out the marketing and finances. However, everytime I feel like quitting, I get a sale! It’s a miracle. So many women reach out to me on Instagram just to thank me for starting this business because it is such a need in their life. That validates my ideas and, again, gives me purpose.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am proud of the overall brand of Raya. I’m a graphic and UX designer so I have been able to use the skills I know and love. The brand is very candid and grounded I would say. I post reels that aren’t perfect and show my true self. I try to include diversity with my models and show that wearing a dress from Raya is more of an experience than a product.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Being driven and persistent is important because the months I am super driven and post consistently are the months I have the most success!
