Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Broska.
Hi Courtney, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always loved photography and creating art from a very early age. During my childhood, I knew that photography would become a strong passion of mine, one that I would eventually create into a business possibly in my twenties or thirties. However, this ambition of creating said business alongside this long-term goal of mine came sooner than anticipated; of course for the better.
I started my business at fourteen years old in 2019 (pre-pandemic), originally capturing cityscape and landscape photography to share with friends on Instagram. This love for different niches of photography eventually expanded into lifestyle portraits and weddings once the pandemic took a hit. I knew that I needed something to keep me busy, and “what better time than now” – I thought.
From here, I continued to grow my business locally in the Buffalo, New York area throughout high school, eventually being able to take my career full-time after graduation in June of 2023. Now, not only am I serving New York State areas, but also traveling to capture the moments of others. I have family in Utah, which leads me to my strong love for the state and the beauty it has to offer. From the communities, to the snow covered peaks even in July, Utah is a state that I am happy to coin as my “second home” and one that I would love to continue to photograph as my journey continues.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes and no. Like any business, there are always bumps along the way. Whether it’s shifting focus, pivoting in a new direction, or addressing an issue that needs fixing.
Being as young as I was when I started my business, and being in high school, the beginning was not always easy. I was seen by my peers as “too mature” or that I wasn’t going to succeed – which I just considered it to be the jealousy talking. I believe getting through that may have been one of the hardest parts of my journey, realizing that not listening to others and their opinions were “OK”.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a lifestyle portrait, wedding, and elopement photographer specializing in capturing life’s little moments (yes, this is my slogan!). I am currently based in Buffalo, New York but do travel frequently for photography. Whether that be couples portraits, styled photo sessions, or other – I love to travel and capture new faces in new places!
My work can be described as nostalgic, candid, and “an unforgettable experience” as I always put my clients and their stories above all else. I believe that as a photographer, my number one priority is truly capturing my clients’ moments in the now, rather than photographing images that would look best for an Instagram feed. I love the candid moments, the laughs, and the memories created during our time together.
For weddings and elopements, my team consists of myself and my significant other! My significant other and I have been together for four years and have been photographing other people’s’ love stories since 2022. Providing a partner experience to our couples has been more than beneficial, as we truly can understand how to capture their love as we would want someone to capture ours. Clients really crave connection with their photographer and their photography team, which makes us being a team even more perfect for those that we serve.
What’s next?
My plans for the future are to continue doing what I love!
As stated in previous responses, the art of photography itself has brought me immense joy and comfort from a young age. My childhood was heavily photographed by my mother, who was my ultimate inspiration in starting my journey.
Currently, I am continuing to pursue traveling along with expressing my creativity while already having plans of sessions and celebrations (weddings and elopements) both in New York and beyond. Some other places including Utah, Montana, California, and other states around America.
I hope to one day relocate to different parts of the country, in the short-term, to capture more moments for others.
