Daily Inspiration: Meet Domeda Duncan Mark Giles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Domeda Duncan Mark Giles

Hi Domeda Duncan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Founded in December 2021, OurSundays is a social impact organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals in Utah. We focus on fostering meaningful connections, providing enjoyable and unique experiences, and facilitating opportunities for personal growth and learning.

Our mission is to enhance access to and awareness of Utah’s destination locations for Black individuals seeking both long-term and short-term residency. Through grassroots community engagement, inclusivity, and strategic collaboration, we aim to increase the retention of Black professionals in Utah by offering exceptional and tailored experiences.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth ride. It’s been bumpy, but we’ve learned to persevere. It’s been the two of us (Domeda and Mark) since the beginning—we were also newish arrivals to Utah. We had no roadmap or formal backgrounds in business so we hit our heads along the way – even experienced burnout. We faced many struggles and we’re still learning. It’s been a lot of lessons, but we’re grateful that we have each other.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Domeda is a skilled marketing professional with a focus on the non-profit, higher education and social impact industries. With a decade of marketing and communications experience, she has developed and launched high-impact digital advertising campaigns, managed creative professionals, and helped brands define their voice.

Mark is an expert cinematographer with experience in the news, higher education and social impact sectors. With over ten years of experience, he has created best-in-class visuals for high profile brands such as Pepsi, Comcast and Bacardi. He is also an award-winning documentary filmmaker, most recently earning accolades for his debut film, “Heart of a Missionary,” a project he filmed in Kenya.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
My mom, would say I was an inquisitive child that kept to herself. I enjoyed anything in nature – summer camp, nature walks, cabin trips and playing freely, were some of my favorite things to do. I was largely solitary. I enjoy my company and that of those I love. Always have and it’s nice to know that hasn’t changed.

As a kid I would describe myself as “chill” to put it in a more universal way, reserved. My parents said from a young age I was always friendly, helpful and eager to learn. I do remember enjoying days on the playground with school mates, participating in sports, playing video games and singing along to the radio.
