Exploring Life & Business with Justin Morris of JM Spectrum Coaching

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Morris.

Hi Justin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I was four years old, I walked into my mother’s room and saw a picture of the most beautiful woman I had ever seen in my four years of life. Her eyes were the clearest blue and her skin seemed so soft. I picked up the picture from her bedside table and asked my mother who she was. She knelt beside me and informed me that it was MY MOTHER! She and my father had died in a tragic airplane accident just a few years before.

This beautiful woman whom I regarded as my mother was actually my Aunt, my mother’s sister. I remember how confused I was. I felt immediately disconnected from everything I thought was real. I no longer felt like I actually belonged anywhere. My little world was destroyed. A short time later we were all outside as a family enjoying a beautiful fall evening together. The sun was just setting. I still remember how beautiful the sunset was. The vivid reds, vibrant oranges, and transcendent indigos and violets are forever pierced in my memory because of what happened next.

My Aunt called me over and I crawled onto her lap. She whispered in my ear. “Your mother is an angel in heaven and she is painting these sunsets just for you.” I don’t think a mother could have given her son a more precious gift. Instantly my world was opened up and I felt inexplicably connected to my mother and my aunt and connected to the divine within me and the divine above me. I no longer saw color the same.

From that time forward as I talked to people or entered different circumstances or events, I would see color. I never understood what I was seeing, but they helped me to understand people better. It wasn’t until stepping into my first color psychology class as a student of Interior Design at Brigham Young University – Idaho that I finally caught a glimpse that the colors that I see actually have meaning. My education and understanding of how color can affect human beings psychologically, emotionally, physically, and spiritually are continually evolving.

After 25 years of practice as a professional interior designer, I have designed homes, corporate offices, resorts, arenas, and temples for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Because of my unique understanding of color, I am able to get to the core of what my clients are desiring quicker which saves them time and money. Beyond my work, in design, I have used my unique ability to see the colors attached to a person and get to the core of the issues they are facing. This has been very beneficial in my career as a Coach, Mentor, Event Producer, and Keynote Speaker/Presenter.

My work today is to help those I work with to clear their vision in order to see themselves more clearly without the deceptive fog and instead see themselves as they are: Powerful, gifted, beautiful, and with the necessary tools to align themselves with God, themselves and their stewardship. I do this through Color. Yes. Color… Your life is your art, live it in your true colors.

I truly believe that if the color weren’t important, the earth would have been created in black and white.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Oh boy! My life has been littered with boulders that seemed to hedge my way forward! At least that is what it seemed like when I was young. Not long after the discovery of my parent’s passing. Some unfortunate choices of others required that I needed to be removed from my home. I was relocated to another Aunt and Uncle’s home. It was an awkward/ beautiful time… however, it was short-lived, and once again, I was removed from their home at the age of 9 and moved into the home of my oldest sister and her husband.

I lived with them for 9 years. Those were the hardest years of my life as I experienced abuse both physical and emotional. Through miraculous courage, I somehow gathered… I left that home during my senior year of high school. I look back at those years with tenderness. I look upon those that hurt me with eyes that are opened and recognize they did their best. I love them for the journey that they are on. But, as an 18-year-old… I realized I no longer needed to be on that journey with them. The experiences I had as a child and adolescent have shaped how I have moved forward in my business.

The experiences that challenged my younger self opened my mind and heart to look at others with a level of empathy that I don’t believe could have been there otherwise. These experiences have commissioned me to help others in the ways I wished I had helped and to be bold in asking the hard questions. These experiences have allowed me to gain confidence in my gifts as a designer, mentor, and intuitive color expert. My coaching business did not take off overnight… I started coaching in 2015 and had just a few clients. People seemed to find me through word of mouth only. Then around 2018, I gave up on coaching altogether. I was a depressed mess. My life was in disarray and suicidal ideation was a daily battle I faced for over a year. Our family had recently relocated to Utah from Idaho and I had left a job that I loved… and we had made the decision based on a very strong feeling and impression that we needed to move.

However, upon moving – nothing seemed to work out. In fact, everything seemed to unravel instead. I did not feel I had the ability to help others. That hurt. Really hurt. I knew God needed me to help others. I felt like I was being disobedient, but at the same time felt like we had done exactly what He had asked us to do. So, I allowed coaching to rest for a time and focused on me and my family instead.

Boy…miracle after miracle began to appear in my life. Amazing people began to enter my life. As I focused on making the hard decisions and some very scary decisions to move forward – opportunities began to open up. Right now, I am finding myself at a crossroads. A very divinely uncomfortable and beautiful crossroads. A crossroads that I know is divinely guided and divinely placed in my path… yet still, a crossroad where I get to choose which way I go.

We’ve been impressed with JM Spectrum Coaching, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a Color Alignment Coach and Professional Color Expert. As a Color Alignment Coach, I help others to learn how to create Self-Alignment through self-integrity and self-awareness.

I teach them how the element of color can help them to understand which areas of their life need support and which areas need neutralization. Though I have the ability to see the areas of life my clients are in need of balancing (the colors I see = different areas of life), my goal is to teach others they can do the same thing. I do this through several programs and tools that I offer.

1. Color Alignment Protocol Video Course
2. Group Coaching
3. Personal Color Profile Sessions
4. Cool tools: Color Card Decks and Visualizations
5. Events

I specialize in creating custom Color Profiles that are uniquely created for those that choose to that level of involvement with me. These Custom Color Profiles consist of:

1. An initial Color Discovery Session with me where we discover the 7-8 colors that I see in them and the messages/meanings of those colors for them.
2. A 36 Color Palette that is customized for that person. The palette also includes the hex codes so they can use them as a tool in marketing. This palette can be used in a variety of ways. Most use it for either marketing or for clothing.
3. A Color Message Chart. This chart is an exceptional tool that not only displays a representation of all 36 colors in their custom palette but also how they relate to the different areas of their life as well as the message they subconsciously send to others through marketing or clothing when they use those colors.

This chart also contains 12 messages (1 message for each of 12 color families). These messages are uniquely yours and are great resources to understand how to move through the emotional healing process more efficiently. They also serve as a great inspiration to create balancing affirmations.
4. A final session where all of these documents are presented and explained.

I am so happy and fulfilled in the work that I do. I am so grateful that I get to see the light come on in so many people’s eyes and souls as they are awakened to their greatness and power. Because I know how vital it is (especially in today’s world) to wake up and seek self-alignment – I have created offerings at many different levels to make what I do accessible to as many as possible.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking?
I am probably what you would call a cautious risk-taker! I have invested thousands of dollars in others businesses that have not worked and have learned valuable lessons. The biggest thing I have learned is that the size of our rewards is often determined by the scariness of the risk! Haha!

The risks that I have taken lately have been enormously advantageous for me and my business. The biggest risks have been in investing in coaches that required sizable amounts of money and dedication. I have also invested in producing my own multi-day events. This endeavor was risky in that there were many expenses associated with the planning that required funding prior to knowing if it would actually be successful or not!

The investment of hard-earned dollars into a figment of my imagination created a “hustle” in my gut that awakened a beautiful entrepreneurial monster… a monster I hope to see take shape and grow into the guise of something I am proud of to call a “part of me”.
