Today we’d like to introduce you to Parry Dean Ward
Hi Parry Dean, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I spent 30 years owning a business in the motorsports and outdoor sports industry. After three decades, I found myself completely burned out. It was time for a change, so I handed the reins over to my son and took a step back to figure out what was next. For a few years, I wasn’t really sure which direction to go. Then a friend approached me with an opportunity to join him in a company that sold high-end real estate—usually estates valued at $10 million or more—through an auction process.
What really struck me was the scale of the open houses we were running. We had thousands of people attending, all signing in with their information, which we would then pass along to the listing agent. It didn’t take long for me to realize that I was missing out on a huge opportunity by not being directly involved. That’s when I decided to get licensed as a realtor. I jumped into traditional real estate right away and found immediate success. I haven’t looked back since.
Over the years, I’ve built multiple teams and currently run The Luxury Agency Team at Century 21 Everest with my business partner, Aaron Pehrson, who’s been in real estate for 27 years. In 2022, we were spending upwards of $20,000 a month on buying leads for our team. But then interest rates started to creep up, and people got nervous. And when people are nervous, they’re not buying real estate. We hesitated to adjust our strategy and ended up spending thousands of dollars on leads that just didn’t pan out. That was a wake-up call. I realized our business model wasn’t as sound as we thought, and it was time to make some changes.
Aaron and I sat down and began designing a new system focused on leveraging the power of your sphere of influence. Over the course of a year and a half—and after a lot of revisions—we developed a comprehensive training and coaching system. It’s all about teaching agents how to tap into their sphere of influence with purpose, value, and intent. The idea is to stay front-of-mind by delivering value-driven touches that make people feel important. When you do that consistently, it puts you in a prime position to receive referral business from your VIPs.
This system isn’t just about getting leads; it’s about creating genuine connections and unlocking the potential that agents already have in their networks. Seeing the impact it’s had on agents’ success has been incredibly rewarding.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh boy, there have been obstacles at every turn. Haha. Obstacles are simply growth opportunities—they force you to dig deep and make the necessary adjustments for wherever you are on your journey. If you’re not stretching, you’re not growing. That’s just how it is.
We’ve gone back to the drawing board more times than I can count—not just with our team, but also while creating the VIP-50 System. Building something meaningful takes a lot of trial and error. You have to be willing to step back, reassess, and make changes even when it feels uncomfortable. But that process of pushing yourself constantly is what makes the reward so satisfying on a daily basis.
It’s not about avoiding obstacles; it’s about using them to refine your approach and get better every step of the way. Looking back, every challenge we faced was just part of the foundation that made what we have today stronger and more resilient.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Being a member of the Top 500 agents in Salt Lake City for the last five years has been a satisfying accomplishment. Helping clients navigate the buying or selling process successfully is always rewarding. But what I’m most proud of goes beyond the transactions—it’s the impact we’re making through our VIP-50 training and coaching system.
The VIP-50 System is designed to help agents tap into their sphere of influence with purpose, value, and intent. The beauty of this system is that it’s not just for real estate agents. Anyone in a service-based business can use it to show up for their people meaningfully, stay top of mind, and position themselves to earn the business. It’s all about creating genuine connections and delivering value-driven touches that make people feel important.
What truly sets me apart is the satisfaction I get from seeing the positive changes in the lives of the agents we coach. When a veteran agent approaches you and thanks you for giving them a refreshing new direction—injecting hope into a business that felt stagnant—that’s incredibly fulfilling. Knowing that our system can breathe new life into someone’s career and give them a clear path forward is what drives me every day.
At the end of the day, real estate is a people business. It’s about relationships, not just transactions. I think that’s what makes the VIP-50 System so powerful—it’s built around unlocking the potential of those relationships in a purposeful way. Helping others achieve that kind of success is what I’m most proud of.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
To me, controlled risk is simply a growth opportunity. If you’re not taking some form of risk, you’re not stretching yourself, and if you’re not stretching, you’re not growing—both as a professional and as a human being. The way I see it, risk is just part of the process of becoming better.
One of the biggest risks I’ve taken was spending a year and a half building the VIP-50 System and implementing it into my business. That was a significant investment of time, energy, and resources without any guarantees it would work. Now, that’s risk—putting everything on the line because you believe in your ability to succeed, even without having all the pieces to the puzzle. Sometimes, you have to just jump in with both feet and have faith and confidence that you’re smart enough and persistent enough to figure it out as you go.
Change is good, but a lot of people are terrified of it. The truth is, you don’t need to have all the answers before you take action. In fact, you can’t have all the answers until you do. The real magic happens when you take that first step and start the process. That’s when you begin to experience the absolute joy and satisfaction of being the proud creator of something amazing.
Risk-taking isn’t about gambling; it’s about making calculated decisions that move you forward. It’s about being willing to invest in yourself and your ideas, even when the path isn’t fully clear. I think the willingness to take those kinds of risks is what separates people who build something meaningful from those who just play it safe.
