An Inspired Chat with Kris Hunsaker

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kris Hunsaker. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Kris, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
That’s an interesting question because I believe in balance. There are aspects of everyday life that need attention. Especially when owning a business. Things that one walks through daily, weekly, monthly, annually. Every business has to prepare taxes for example. Paths that have to be walked. The more time one can set aside for themself to step off that path and wander, the clearer that path becomes. I try to spend as much time wandering as possible. Let me mind explore and my heart feel. I believe it’s how innovation happens. Not in the daily grind but while drinking coffee reading the paper stepping off the path. Let me sleep on it.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am currently working on a new project. After 4 years of learning while launching Finding Wild (FindingWildAdventure.com) I have decided to try a more simple strategy. I now build Viking style Talismans that wear on the wrist. We use Crown Jewels like Rubies and Sapphires, Emeralds, Amethyst and Rose Quartz mixed with power stones like selenite, Obsidian, Turquoise and onyx we then add skulls and a Norse/Futhark or Icelandic rune for intention. The results have been positive so far.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My stepfather owned a pool construction company. He taught me how to be the best trades employee. I worked construction my entire life. Even today I still work maintaining the rail system. But what I learned was that no matter how good of an employee I was, I would never provide for my family like my father was able too. Working for someone else doesn’t pay. At least not well enough. At least not in today business world. I hope to change that one day.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
As a matter of fact I’m at that point now. I’m not sure how much longer I will keep up with Finding Wild. The cost is so great and knocking the barrier into the world’s elite is complicated. I know in time it would be a great success and provide so much joy to so many. Time is not something I have a lot of so I’m changing paths and I’m afraid Finding Wild may land on the chopping block. With that said I haven’t given up on my dreams. Nordic Gemstones is real. It turned a profit in its first month and has great potential. It provides higher than living wages and only demands 20 or less hours a week. I want to change the landscape for the working class. It takes failure to succeed. Giving up in one place doesn’t mean it has to be over.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
We are losing the arts. Everyone including smart people put emphasis on profit over people. Functionality over appearance. We find success as working instead of creating. We are a species that is made to create and we are doing it for the stock market not for the joy anymore. No one is happy doing the daily grind. And that damn stock market is by far the greatest scam this world continues to pull off next to insurance.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What will you regret not doing?
Starting entrepreneurship in my teens. It takes a lot of time and failure to figure it out and there is no pure system to just magically be successful. Every person, project and idea are unique so it takes time and many failures to finally get that home run hit. And then recreating it is a completely new challenge. So waiting until I felt desperately trapped in the grind. Waiting until my mid 40s was a great mistake.
