Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Hamblin.
Hi Tara, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Larsen Digital is a family owned business that preserves your old family films to digital. The owner, Brent Larsen, has always been an avid lover of photography. Starting as a child, you could always find a camera in his hands. Over the years, his love of computers and technology also grew. In the early 1990’s Brent knew that his vast 35mm slide collection was starting to degrade. He knew that he wanted to save them digitally, but the technology wasn’t readily available. So he invested in his first scanner, with a promise to his wife that he would earn money back by scanning the neighbor’s slides himself. What he found was an enormous need from family, friends, and strangers who also knew the value of scanning & converting their film to digital. Larsen Digital started out as an “internet only” business and was run out of his basement for the first few years. Then, in 2006 he took the giant leap and opened his location that was open to the public. Since then Larsen Digital has grown and added many additional services and employees. Brent’s daughter Tara now runs the companies operations in Pleasant View, Utah. We pride ourselves on being locally owned and operated and for having superior services.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Always adapting to the new technology and staying on top of it changing and advancing time takes a lot of time and effort.
There are also always road blocks that come your way. One of the hardest has been surviving in a world where our competition does the same type of work but sends it out of the country to have done. This allows them to operate with much lower costs but always puts customers film in danger by going on to container ships over the ocean to have scanned without even telling their customers this. We don’t believe in this and operate differently. We offer competitive pricing and we keep all of your priceless film at our one location and safe in our fire safe vault while not being worked on.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We can scan photographic slides, negatives, photos and scrapbook pages to a digital image. We transfer video tapes, movie film reels, audio cassettes, reel-to-reel audio, and so much more to a digital file. Not only do we transfer and scan your film but we specialize in editing it as well. We color correct all your slides, negatives and photos in Photoshop so that it comes back looking like you had just barely taken the picture. We offer the highest quality scan and transfers out there so that you never have to have it redone. You can enjoy your films for generations to come! We really love working with these precious memories and it makes our jobs the best.

Starting a business is always hard and scary but if you put everything into it, you will never regret trying. There is always a need for different services and providers. It will be a lot of work to get started but once you have things running smoothly, it does get easier. The bumps along the way just make you stronger and you will grow so much from it. Put all your efforts into getting your name out there and word of mouth after that is huge.
