Daily Inspiration: Meet David Evans

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Evans.

Hi David, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
2005 Christmas Eve. I was a young father of six boys and one girl. I had been busy all month working early morning to late at night to provide for our family. I had waited way too long to get our Christmas tree. It’s now the night before Christmas and I dash over to a local tree lot. To my surprise they were open. I was the only customer there. I asked if they would give me a great deal on a last minute tree. “nope” they said. It’s like they knew I was desperate and was going to buy a tree regardless. They were right. I paid full price for a subpar tree and rushed it home. I was exhausted but excited to finally be able to get a tree up for our family. Although I was excited it felt like I had been punched in the gut from my poor experience at the tree lot. I get it though, who wants to be working Christmas Eve in the cold to have the only customer of the night show up and ask for a deal. Well that poor experience sparked an idea. I’ll do my own lot. I will teach my young boys about business, responsibility, hard work all while having fun, smelling like Christmas and always having a perfect tree. That next year in 2006 we started our Christmas Tree delivery business. Aimed at those who are always working and don’t have the time or energy to go brave the cold weather, getting scratches on the roof of their car, ruining their clothes and car with pine sap and lastly not having to deal with tree salesman that are selling subpar trees at a premium price. Prepaid Christmas Trees was born! (If only I had thought of delivering food…..I wouldn’t be talking to you). No more waste of cutting down trees that will never be sold. Customers can prepay for their tree anytime throughout the year (spreading out the cost of Christmas). They can select from a variety of sizes and types of trees. Ordered conveniently online along with other items like tree stands, wreaths, poinsettias, then your tree and order shows up to your doorstep on one of our free delivery days that you choose (Black Friday or the first Saturday in December). We arrive give it a fresh cut so all you have to do is answer the door take it from your porch inside to your water holding stand and all your tree troubles are over. We harvest premium grade farm trees or mountain wild trees to order and only secure about 100 extra trees each year that usually sell out the first couple weeks of December. We absolutely love providing this service and the now eight boys have had a ton of fun and learned much about customer service and business over the years as they work hard to earn money for their missions and college.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
