Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Hepworth.
Hi Austin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have had the opportunity to work for a number of years as an attorney. As an attorney, I see a lot of problems in my day-to-day work. I meet with many people who were discouraged, down on their luck, or feeling a bit hopeless. I also would talk with quite a few people who were discouraged in general about the condition of the world, but who also weren’t doing too much to change anything about the items they were discouraged about.
I tried for a time to fight for important rights in court or to change laws to improve situations, but I quickly saw that more was necessary. When I talked to people about being involved in proactively building good in the world, most liked the idea, but most also did not want to commit much time, effort, or resources.
As I thought about how to address problems in society, I realized that many people have stopped believing that good is possible. Many feel that the problems are too big to do anything about and that they are powerless to make a real or lasting difference. Due to this, I realized that it was important to simply help people believe again – belief in themselves, in their power and ability to influence the world, for good, and in the inherent goodness that still exists in so many people.
I formed Believe to help address a number of these issues. Believe was not a sudden flash of inspiration or just one idea. It has been a process and will continue to be. Believe seeks to create a community that supports the good in people and society. It seeks to provide professional services to help a good business or project grow. It seeks to help individuals believe in themselves and pursue their individual potential.
Ultimately, it seeks to help everyone believe that the world can be a better place while providing assistance and a community to be involved in as we undertake the journey and work necessary to help good thrive.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. Good things always take polishing and refining, and we have tried many different things as we have worked to find ways to connect with others.
One of the biggest struggles that still remains is the amount of time necessary to help an individual break out of false or limiting beliefs about themselves or the world. As humans, we don’t always want to change, even if we know that we should, and we often need a lot of support and encouragement as we work to change the parts of ourselves that can be improved.
Additionally, another struggle is deciding on how best to allocate time, as there are so many good things to be a part of, but it is impossible to be involved with all of them at this time.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Believe Ventures?
Believe operates a number of projects and initiatives, as well as provides a variety of professional services. Believe has a number of professionals that are part of its community, and it seeks to provide quality services to those who are looking to build something that can impact or influence the world, for good.
As an example, Believe has helped to create a law firm called Believe First that is part of the community, and Believe First strives to work with individuals on a long-term basis as they work to build good in the world. Believe First provides legal services, consulting, and other business needs as a company or project grows.
Believe also offers some merchandise to help spread the message of simply believing. Individuals can wear wristbands or shirts that reiterate to others the importance of still believing.
Ultimately, the thing that really sets Believe apart is that the people in Believe fully believe the world’s best days are still to come. They are optimistic and proactive and value those they work with, as they recognize that the world is only as good as the people and relations inside of it.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
From what we have seen, depression, anxiety, and the like are only increasing. From our perspective, there is a lot of work to do to help reach all that may be in need of help, and we anticipate staying very busy, but also enjoying our progress, over the next decade.
