Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Paxton.
Hi Amanda, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It all started with me and my sister-in-law and a few bottles of essential oil. We thought it would be fun to make homemade soap we were so proud of our lavender and goat milk soap we posted it online and we had so many friends asking to buy it. We decided to have a small ETSY shop after a few craft fairs we had such a great response I was itching to add more products.
My sister-in-law at the time was too busy going back to school and having a full-time job she handed me our little project to make it my very own small business. This is when True Luxe Bath and Body was born. I was looking to make bath and body products with the best ingredients I can find. I wanted to make a luxury product that’s good for you and affordable. I started teaching myself how to make products like whipped sugar scrub and body butter. These products were a hit for my business!
Through word of mouth from the amazing woman of my community, my body butter has a cult following and I am always selling out. What an amazing problem to have. I have recently added all-natural dry shampoo powder and an anti-aging clay face mask to my lineup. I feel so blessed to be able to do something that I love.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I would love to say it’s been a smooth road but there have definitely been some struggles. This process has made me grow as a person a lot.
As an ambivert putting myself in the spotlight to sell products has been a struggle. There is always this little inner monologue inside screaming in fear when I have to put myself out there when I am selling products but then my love for what I do kicks in and gets me through having conversations with strangers. I actually end up enjoying myself.
Another struggle I would say I have is being a mom and working from home. Finding that balance is definitely tricky and I am still working on this.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I own True Luxe Bath and Body an artisan bath and body product company. I make all my products in small batches using the best ingredients I can find. I would say I am known for my body butter. I use so many skin-loving ingredients in my body butter such as lavender extract, shea butter cocoa butter, aloe vera leaf extract, and chamomile flower extract.
In the summertime, my lavender essential oil body butter is a hot item as a natural way to keep mosquitoes away.
Right now I am extremely proud of my all-natural dry shampoo. Every time I would spay the store-bought chemical dry shampoo into my hair, I would think there has got to be a better way. I was on a mission to create something all-natural that got the job done without inhaling unknown chemicals.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice to anyone starting out is to trust what your inner voice is telling you. If you feel good about it do it. Don’t worry if the person next to you is selling a very similar product.
There is room for everyone! Also, don’t try to make a product that you think everyone will love. Make what you love and I promise there will be people who will love it too. Be true to who you are and people will appreciate that.
