Check Out Aubrey Phillips’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aubrey Phillips.

Hi Aubrey, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Aubrey Phillips, when I was 16 I had a very particular idea about how my life was going to go. I would win American Idol and sign with a record label. I believed down to my core that was my path.

When things didn’t play out the way I wanted, I was devastated. So much so, that I quit singing all together for 10 years!!

The funny thing is, in all that time I had met and fallen in love with my husband, who wouldn’t you know….is a producer in music!

He helped people to create their dreams from nothing and the whole process intimidated the hell out of me! I was just some girl that LOVED to sing cover songs but never really found my voice when it came to writing my own songs. So I sat and watched on the sidelines while he created and still creates the most beautiful art with incredibly talented artists.

After 10 years of sitting on the sidelines something stirred inside of me. I missed music and singing so very much! And something just clicked that said, you know what? So what if I love to sing cover songs! I still have something valuable to offer the world in sharing my voice no matter how that looks.

So I hopped online and did some research and found this band called Red Vinyl. They were a cover band that did corporate events, they were talented and professional. This was something I could get behind!

After my first meeting with them, I knew this was something special and convinced my husband to tag along for an upcoming gig playing lead guitar for us.

It has now been 4 years since that first meeting, I am 39 years old and having the time of my life in a band that I love with bandmates that I love and all the while I get to do it with my husband! I may not be creating original music, but when we hit the stage and sing our songs, everyone in the audience knows every lyric. And the pure joy from the look on their faces is the most rewarding feeling in the world.

We have grown so much in 4 years and this year we have doubled our bookings and revenue, landing major corporate gigs and private party events at luxury resorts in the Park City area. We are very excited for the 2027 season but not without some heartache along the way. We lost our second keyboard player Mark Gelter to a sudden heart attack just one day after our last big show on September 12th which has been a devastating loss.

We will continue to build our business however and move forward with Mark in our hearts. Music is what keeps us going. It was true for Mark and it’s still true for us so we will play on in his memory. And always, for the love of music.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road before finding Red Vinyl was definitely a long one for me. I had been auditioning for shows like American idol and The Voice from the age of 16 to the age of 27 and with that comes a lot of rejection, heartache, and dealing with self-doubt for sure. When I finally decided to join a local pop band that wrote original songs, It was that experience that led me to meeting my husband so ultimately I wouldn’t trade my path for anything in the world.

After taking my 10-year hiatus and then finding Red Vinyl I would say the road has been smooth in so many ways but like building anything worthwhile still comes with obstacles. Every one of us in the band adore each other and get along so well which honestly makes everything else feel easier. But we all work day jobs to pay our bills and so building this business and pouring all of the hours of rehearsal into the creation of this thing has required a lot of sacrifice in terms of time for all of us.

It’s a beautiful thing when you have a team full of people that have the same goals and are willing to sacrifice time and energy in order to build towards something so much bigger.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Red Vinyl is a full service corporate event and luxury party band. What that means is, we are a turnkey solution for corporate professionals throwing galas, corporate events or holiday parties for their employees. We also play luxury weddings. We are able to supply all elements of production including concert sound production, lighting, and staging.

What I am most proud of is our ability to read the room and shift our set in order to keep the energy alive. We pride ourselves in being able to get our clients guests up and dancing all night and it makes for such a fun time for us as well!

I believe that what sets us apart is the raw and real talent that our band has. So many other pro level party bands in this industry lean very heavily on backing tracks to fill the space and have an overproduced sound. We absolutely do not deny that there is value in that, however, we are a seven-piece band including four instruments and three lead vocalists who are able to bring energy, killer harmonies, and top tier musicianship without leaning on an overproduced track. You are truly getting a live band experience with us and we believe there’s a special kind of magic in that. Our clients seem to agree as well with our track record of having 100% five star reviews.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
You can find us on Instagram as well as Facebook as @redvinylband. We also have our own website www.redvinylband.com and also regularly use the booking platform Gigsalad. Or by email bookredvinyl@gmail.com

Collaborating with us would look like finding us through one of these platforms to get in touch and begin the booking process.

If you or any of your readers no of a corporation or brand who is throwing a gala or event of any kind for the upcoming 2027 season. You can support us by recommending us as the entertainment for these events. We do travel nationwide even though we are SLC based.
