Today we’d like to introduce you to Bruno Barragan.
Hi Bruno, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have been introduced to so much amazing and so many different types of music that I instantly became fixated on the sound and poetry behind it all. I am an immigrant from Mexico so I got the privilege of also having my culture and country’s music influence and expand my love for all music.
As a lot of people, life threw a lot of different experiences and sometimes those experiences were the most positive and they left scars. Scars that do not heal with medicine and bandages but that only heal with the mind and creating positive habits out of it. Music saved me through a lot of those moments in my life where I thought I was helpless and hopeless.
During my teenage years, I was trying to learn how to play guitar then the drums and wanted to start a band so badly. However, I never saw the same flow and desire for it in my friends so I considered that a lost cause and I slowly faded away from playing instruments.
Something finally struck a chord with me in 2018 – still being a fairly new dad, going thru immigration troubles, and not knowing what to do. I decided to start writing and rhyming, I really liked how it started to sound in my head and right then and there, I decided that this was something I was going to do for the rest of my life. Whether I was making it my career or just my free time, creating music is a part of my soul.
I have had amazing opportunities and experiences thanks to the drive I put into finding connections. I have opened up for Snow Tha Product and a sold out show of 900 people, have performed at so many different venues. My friends and I even put our own money into flying out 2 big name artists(Lex Bratcher & Gringo the MC) to headline a show with us here in SLC.
All of this has brought me to where I am today. Making music and now directing, shooting and fully editing music videos, album artwork and artist photos for my local community and myself.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was not a smooth road. So much money has been spent on equipment, advertisement, studio time, merchandise, etc… and while stuff like equipment is reusable and has value in itself, paying for stuff like ads that don’t guarantee you a strong or even any return of investment and has proven to not be the best to invest on. There’s has also been a few occurrences of people who we trusted – stole money and merchandise from us..
Tho it was not smooth sailing, I never let this stop me or even slow me down.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I make music that is heavily influenced by hip-hop, punk, and rock.
I am also a freelance photographer/videographer and founder of Cold Dogs Productions.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The industry of music is constantly evolving and changing where the mainstream goes. I see only more greatness coming from all up and coming artists
