Today we’d like to introduce you to Diego Alvarado.
Hi Diego, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I arrived in the United States from Venezuela in 2018, and the past eight years have been a journey of growth, adaptation, and discovery. Back home, I was studying journalism, but due to the situation in Venezuela, my family and I had to leave and start over in a new country.
Moving to the United States meant learning a new language, adapting to a different culture, building new relationships, and finding my place in a completely new environment. While it wasn’t always easy, I never let those challenges stop me from pursuing my goals.
My passion for storytelling never went away. Today, through Diego Recomienda, I have the opportunity to showcase the beauty of Utah and everything the state has to offer. From visiting places like Moab, local lakes, parks, restaurants, and hidden gems, to highlighting businesses and organizations that are making a positive impact in their communities, I enjoy helping people discover experiences they may not have known about.
My mission is to connect people with the best of Utah by sharing interesting places to visit, local businesses to support, community events, and unique experiences throughout the state. I want both residents and visitors to see what makes Utah such a special place and encourage them to explore everything our communities have to offer.
What started as a passion for journalism has evolved into a platform dedicated to discovery, connection, and promoting the people, places, and businesses that help make Utah an incredible place to live, work, and visit.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has definitely not been a smooth road. Starting over in a new country came with many challenges. When I arrived in the United States from Venezuela in 2018, I had to adapt to a new culture, learn a new language, build a new network of friends and professional connections, and navigate an entirely different way of life.
Like many immigrants, there were moments of uncertainty. I had to take on different jobs, learn new skills, and step outside of my comfort zone. One of the biggest challenges was rebuilding my career path. When I arrived here, I had to focus on creating stability and finding new opportunities.
Over the years, I learned that setbacks don’t have to define your future. Every challenge taught me something valuable and helped me grow personally and professionally. Those experiences also gave me a greater appreciation for the people and communities around me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am the creator of Diego Recomienda, a platform dedicated to showcasing the best of Utah through local businesses, community events, attractions, restaurants, and unique experiences. My work combines storytelling, content creation, and community engagement to help people discover places they may not have known about and connect with the people behind them.
I specialize in highlighting what makes Utah special. Whether it’s a family-owned business, a local event, a hidden gem, a popular destination like Moab, or an organization making a positive impact, I enjoy sharing experiences that encourage people to explore and support their local communities.
What I am most proud of is being able to build meaningful connections with people from all backgrounds. As someone who came to the United States from Venezuela and had to start over, I understand the value of opportunity and community. Through my platform, I have been able to meet entrepreneurs, community leaders, nonprofit organizations, and everyday people who are working to make Utah a better place.
What sets me apart is my genuine curiosity and passion for discovering and sharing stories. I don’t just focus on businesses—I focus on the people, experiences, and communities behind them. My goal is to create content that is informative, authentic, and valuable while helping others discover everything Utah has to offer. I believe that every place has something unique to offer, and I enjoy helping bring those opportunities and experiences to a wider audience.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I always wanted to communicate. I’ve always had a strong belief that there is good in everything, and I try to see the positive side in every situation. My way of seeing the world has always been optimistic, even during difficult moments.
I also believe that everyone deserves to be heard. We all have stories, and we all have something valuable to share. Because of that, I’ve always felt drawn to communication and expression—helping others tell their stories and highlighting the good in people and in situations.
As I grew up, I became especially interested in communicating ideas, sharing perspectives, and finding meaning in everyday experiences. That mindset is something I still carry with me today in everything I do.
