Check Out Emily Aguilar’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Aguilar

Hi Emily, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a mother of 5. I have always been interested in Real Estate, but knew for me to be the kind of realtor (and mother) I wanted to be, I needed my children to be a little older. When my youngest was in 2nd grade, I felt the time was right. Our family was living in Houston, Texas at the time. I got my license and joined Re/Max in The Woodlands; our town at the time. I would often host 4 open houses every weekend and was able to meet and connect with clients fairly easily. I started having some success and Mike Seder asked me to join his team. At the time, the team was closing over 550 transactions a year and was the #1 team in Texas. I was honored to join and quickly started operating at a very high volume. My husband was laid off from his executive job a few months later and then Covid hit…not a great time to be unemployed! Real estate continued to be extremely busy for me. He took over at home and handled the homeschooling and everything else that Covid brought. I was able to quickly adapt to the market and had to become an expert at both selling a home and buying a home in an extremely competitive and record breaking market. I was fortunate enough to be a part of many different transactions and met so many wonderful clients along the way.

Four years later, my husband was presented with an exciting job opportunity in Salt Lake City. I am a native Utahn, born and raised. We had been in Texas for 9 years and really enjoyed our time there. However, the timing and opportunity was hard to ignore. We moved back to Utah in 2022. I quickly obtained a real estate license here and have been enjoying working with the people of Utah again! I love the beauty of this state and appreciate all of the amazing things it has to offer! I am thoroughly enjoying working with wonderful clients and friends in Utah as well as my clients in Texas.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Holding a real estate license in two states can be tricky, but I feel it helps me to really have a full picture of what’s happening in each state and around the country. When I was a new realtor, it took some time to figure out my “realtor identity.” How did I want to interact with my clients? How can I best serve them and their needs? When you are first starting out, people will give you advice on what has worked for them and how they operate, which is wonderful, but you need to know who you are and what makes you great at your job. Having the experience that I now do, I am confident in who I am as a realtor, how I want to operate and most importantly, the value and experience I present to my clients.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work at all price points with both buyers and sellers. I have been fortunate enough to help families and individuals with multi-million dollar properties and second homes as well as first time home buyers. I love it all! I am most proud of what I bring to my clients and my ability to work with all types of people. I always take the time to talk to clients and figure out what their situation is, how they want to operate and what they need from me. Some clients need their realtor to discuss things at length and run scenarios, some just want the facts and some are in-between. I am always so grateful to be a part of such a big event in people’s lives. They are often buying or selling a home for very exciting reasons and sometimes, they are buying or selling as a result of a difficult life event. I know everyone has a choice as to who they hire to represent them and I take that honor very seriously!

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I wish I could say I was always listening to uplifting and educational podcasts. The truth is, I love my true crime podcasts and almost always have one on, ha! In addition to listening to true crime, exercise is a must for me. It clears my head and allows me to handle the highs, lows, stress, excitement and demands that every day can bring. Aside from actively showing and listing homes, I am often catching up on market reports and marketing strategies. I also love to talk to lenders and understand what needs they are anticipating for the current market and what new programs they can offer my clients.
