Today we’d like to introduce you to Erik Macedo.
Hi Erik, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started writing lyrics when I was around 12 years old because some of my friends were doing it. At the time, I listened to a lot of rap Tech N9ne, Hopsin, J. Cole, and Eminem but I also listened to other genres too, like System of a Down, Green Day, and Christina Perri. I kind of taught myself how to rap by studying those artists and writing over instrumentals from songs I liked or beats I found on YouTube.
By the time I was 16, I had gotten my first job and saved enough money to buy a laptop and a microphone—a Blue Yeti, actually. I remember staying up all night trying to figure out how to get it working and install Audacity. The next morning I finally figured it out and made something that barely resembled a song. It was raw and completely unmixed, but I was proud of it because making music was all I ever wanted to do. It became an outlet for me.
For the next few years, I just kept creating. I messed around with recording and mixing, thinking everything I made sounded amazing, but I didn’t care because I had complete creative freedom. Growing up in a small town, the local music scene was surprisingly great. I remember recording a song with a friend from high school who was performing at a show and invited me on stage to perform it with him. I said, “Absolutely.”
We performed the song, and the crowd loved it. I had never felt anything like that before. I posted a video from the performance on Facebook, and it caught the attention of Eddie Lion and Mo in Logan, who were putting together hip-hop shows. They reached out and asked if I wanted to perform at one. Going from recording in my room to seeing my name on a flyer was honestly mind-blowing.
I started doing shows here and there, but my main focus was always improving the quality of my music. I upgraded my equipment, learned Ableton, and spent a lot of time trying to make my music sound more professional. Around that time, I found an artist named Eon Zero on YouTube. I reached out to him, and he ended up teaching me a lot about releasing music, cover art, marketing, and just being real about the industry. We released several songs together through SoundCloud.
In 2018, though, I hit a rough patch and took a break from music because I was dealing with depression. I’d still release a song every now and then, but it became pretty rare. In 2019, I slowly found my way back and released an EP called Under No Circumstances. It talked a lot about what I was going through while also trying to keep a positive outlook.
Around that same time, an old friend, Eddie, reached out to me. He had started a hip-hop collective called Small Time Entertainment and asked if I wanted to be a part of it. They put on shows every other month in downtown Logan. I said yes immediately. Being around music and artists again made me feel alive, and I’ve been with them ever since.
In 2022, I started creating reels and music videos for other artists in the valley. That led me to meeting studio owner Steve Tracy, who invited me to help shoot a video for one of his clients. He liked my work and asked if I wanted to work as a videographer. I jumped at the opportunity. Through Seize The Night Records, I got to be around live events, recording sessions, shows, and a lot of creative people. Steve and everyone there taught me a lot, and I’m still grateful for that experience.
During that time, I released an EP called Still Needs Roses, It was the first project I recorded in a professional studio environment, and I was really proud of how it turned out. I even made merchandise for it and sold a lot of it at the next Small Time show.
I eventually had to part ways with Seize The Night Records in 2025 because of work conflicts, but I’ve stayed close with everyone there. Since then, I’ve continued making music consistently. Right now, I’m working on another EP with artists I’ve met through shows and events. It’s called Uncanny Valley, and it’s probably the project that best represents my journey so far.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely a lot! But I’ve always kept that thought in the back of my head that it all worth it in the end!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I make music about pain! Mainly what’s going through my mind at the time, things I see, or just simply explaining my side! I mix & master my own songs so I get to put what I want people to hear! I’m really proud for how far I came! Being able to be vulnerable but also raw about it!
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
