Check Out Haley DeLapp’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley DeLapp.

Hi Haley, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey into design began long before I officially called it a business. From the time I was young, I was always creating—painting, sketching, designing murals for youth camps, even volunteering at charity events doing face painting just for the joy of bringing a smile to someone’s face. In high school, I discovered the impact of visual communication when I took over designing flyers and managing my choir’s social media. That was the moment I realized how design could connect people, tell a story, and spark emotion.

I went on to study graphic design at Irvine Valley College and later Salt Lake Community College, continuously refining my style and technical skills. In every job I held, even outside the creative field, I naturally found ways to incorporate design—often becoming the “go-to” person for marketing materials, branding pieces, or digital graphics. Those experiences helped me bridge artistic passion with professional purpose.

Eventually, I realized that what I loved most was working one-on-one with people, bringing their ideas to life in a way that felt personal, joyful, and meaningful. That’s when Delappily Graphic Design was born—a small business built on creativity, connection, and the belief that design should feel like a delightful experience, not just a transaction.

Today, I’m grateful to serve clients locally in Utah and across the nation, helping businesses, event hosts, and creatives turn their visions into art—always with the same happiness and dedication that sparked this journey in the first place.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like many small business owners and creatives, my journey definitely hasn’t been a straight line. I was in the middle of completing my graphic design certification when COVID hit, and everything changed overnight. You’d think design classes would transition smoothly to an online format, but due to constant Adobe software updates, the textbooks became outdated almost immediately. Most of the course projects relied on in-person guidance from teacher’s aides to navigate tools that looked completely different from what was printed on the page. Without that support, continuing became incredibly difficult.

At the same time, my personal life shifted. I was working in the restaurant industry to put myself through school, and when COVID impacted that job, I had to quickly find new full-time work just to cover basic living expenses like rent and groceries. As much as I was passionate about finishing my program, physically attending classes was no longer possible while working full time, so I had to make the hard decision to pause my education—just shy of the finish line.

During that time, I pivoted into the medical field, which offered more stability in such an uncertain period. Thankfully, creativity has a way of finding its place wherever you go. Even in a medical office setting, I found opportunities to design marketing materials, create social media content, and develop in-office signage. That unexpected chapter introduced me to a new type of client—local clinics and small businesses—which became an incredibly meaningful part of my design journey.

While the road wasn’t smooth, those challenges pushed me to adapt, to keep creating no matter the circumstances, and ultimately helped shape the direction of Delappily Graphic Design as it exists today.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At Delappily Graphic Design, I create custom and thoughtfully designed visual pieces ranging from branding and marketing materials to event invitations, signage, menus, and social media graphics. Whether a client is looking for a fully custom design experience or a beautifully personalized template to fit a more budget-friendly approach, my goal is always the same—to make sure their vision feels seen, heard, and brought to life with care.

Over time, I’ve learned that every client and every project is unique. Some come with a clear direction, while others only have a general theme or a feeling they want captured. I pride myself on being a great listener and creative problem-solver, helping clients explore ideas, offering options, and refining details until the final design feels just right. Clients have shared that they appreciate the patient, collaborative process and the way I make design feel approachable, even for those who don’t know where to start.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned as an artist and business owner is finding the balance between accessibility and honoring the value of creative work. Custom design takes time, skill, and heart, and I’ve grown to price my services in a way that reflects that—while still offering flexible options so that more people can enjoy beautiful, intentional design regardless of their budget.

What sets Delappily apart is the joyful, personalized experience behind every project. Whether I’m building something from scratch or tailoring one of my professionally designed templates, each piece is crafted with genuine passion and a desire to make the process enjoyable for my clients. I don’t just hand over a file—I create art that carries story, personality, and a little bit of happiness in every detail.

At the end of the day, nothing makes me happier than hearing a client say, “That’s exactly what I wanted—only better.” That moment of shared excitement is what inspires everything I do at Delappily.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
If I had to choose one quality that has contributed most to my success, it would be genuine attentiveness—truly listening to people and caring about their vision. Design, to me, isn’t just about making something look good; it’s about making something feel right for the person it’s being created for. That requires more than artistic skill—it requires empathy, patience, and a willingness to collaborate, not just create.

Clients often tell me that they felt heard throughout the process and that I took the time to understand not just what they wanted visually, but what emotion or impact they were hoping to achieve. Whether they have a full creative brief or just a general theme, I meet them with enthusiasm and encouragement. I make it a priority to ensure the creative process feels exciting and stress-free—like a fun collaboration rather than a formal transaction.

That ability to connect—to listen before designing, to communicate clearly, and to care about the details that matter to them—has built strong client relationships and earned trust. Creativity starts the work, but connection and joy complete it. I believe that is the heart of Delappily’s success.
