Irene Katzias

Hi Irene, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always had a passion for planning events, which blossomed during my college years when I started organizing large-scale events. During this time, I stumbled upon my first wedding project, which ignited a spark within me.

Juggling my weekend wedding ventures alongside a 9 to 5 event planning job, I soon realized that my true calling lay in creating unforgettable moments for couples on their special day. A quote resonated deeply with me – “You find your purpose not based on how you feel, but how you make other people feel when you do it.” With this mantra in mind four years ago, I took the leap of faith, transforming my weekend hobby into a full-time commitment.

Fast forward to today, and I’m proud to say that I’m celebrating my ninth year in the industry, crafting unique and memorable weddings for clients nationwide. It’s been an incredible journey filled with joy, challenges, and countless beautiful moments, and I’m excited to see where the future takes us!

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Over the past nine years of designing events, there have been challenges. While I’ve always excelled at managing logistics and bringing intricate wedding details to life, transitioning from executing events to running my own business presented a new set of hurdles.

Wearing multiple hats as a marketing director, accountant, social media manager, contract negotiator, salesperson, and wedding planner, the learning curve was steep. Customizing each aspect to align with my vision required time, effort, and investment in mentors and classes.

It was a tedious process, but witnessing the growth and progress of my business, I can confidently say that every challenge has ultimately shaped me into a better entrepreneur.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in wedding design and planning, where my team and I take great pride in turning couples’ visions into breathtaking realities. What sets us apart is our commitment to never duplicate the same wedding design twice. Each celebration is a unique reflection of the couple’s interests, stories, and dreams, inspired by their individuality.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is deeply intertwined with the branding of Irene + Co Events. Growing up in New England, I cherished the annual DC cherry blossom festival. Despite any challenges or negativity, the cherry blossom trees always created a magical atmosphere of joy and tranquility.

My mom, who had a passion for photography, captured countless images of the blossoms, and those memories stayed with me. I wanted to evoke that same feeling of bliss for my couples. So, I took one of my mom’s photos from the cherry blossom festival, made some edits, and it became an integral part of Irene + Co Events’ identity.
