Check Out Jim and Traci Nelson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jim and Traci Nelson.

Hi Jim and Traci, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Our story began in high school, where Traci and I were high school sweethearts. We met at a stake Roadshow and immediately felt a deep connection. However, as we finished high school, life took us in different directions. I went on an LDS mission while Traci went to college. For various reasons, life sort of pulled us apart for a while. So, fast forward twenty years and we reconnected. We both admitted that we should have always been together, but life had other lessons.

As of this June, we will have been married for 18 years and we have two wonderful children. Our journey has taught us that life can be unpredictable but everyone deserves a second chance to fulfill their dreams. This is why we started our real estate business. Our internal purpose is to help people achieve their dreams if the road to life has not always been smooth.

Traci came into the real estate industry with a design and home staging background. Initially, when we sold our first home, Traci designed the staging. Our friends were impressed and asked her to help stage their homes for sale. This led to the creation of a staging business and then into real estate.

Throughout the years, we moved around due to my career in financial consulting and treasury sales. We have bought and sold houses over ten times, experiencing the stress, complications, and challenges of both buying and selling. This has given us a unique perspective and empathy for our clients.

I spent almost 25 years in the top 20 banks, like JP Morgan and U.S. Bank, specializing in financial consulting, commercial real estate working capital, and commercial treasury sales. I left my career to join Traci and create our own real estate business. My past experience allows us to provide our clients with a rich and sophisticated buying and selling experience. For example, our buyer counseling sessions are almost two hours long, ensuring that we fully understand our client’s needs.

Today, we live to help people achieve their dreams, as we feel we are achieving ours. We understand the value of persistence and faith that things will turn out alright. And we are completely dedicated to helping our clients achieve their dreams.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Our journey has been rewarding, but it has not been without its challenges. Like everyone else, we have faced obstacles along the way.

One of the biggest hurdles we encountered was finding the right moment to start our business. Some people may think that starting a real estate career during turbulent times is a bad idea. However, we disagree. If you look at the top 100 realtors in Keller Williams, for example, most of them started their careers in difficult markets.

Starting a business later in life was another challenge. However, we know that our past experiences provide us with a unique perspective that helps our clients succeed. Determination and perseverance are the hallmarks of great realtors, and we strive to embody these values as we build our successful real estate business.

The real estate industry itself is also very challenging. Buying and selling a home is a complicated process, and we believe that it is not for hobbyists. We have seen firsthand the setbacks that can occur when buyers or sellers do not use high-quality, professional Realtors. When things go badly, it can take both a financial and emotional toll on clients and their families.

We have always pushed forward and, knowing firsthand, the stakes of this transaction for most people, we fight for the best outcomes possible. We take our clients’ dreams very seriously, and it is an honor to help them achieve their goals. Our experiences have taught us that success is not easy, but we are there to support our clients in every way possible.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Traci and I both have creative backgrounds. She was professionally trained as a theater educator and taught high school theater for a number of years.

While I have always had a passion for performance art and writing. Six years ago, we founded the Millcreek Community Theater. We realized that there were no good options for community theater on the east side of Salt Lake, which we found odd. So, we created an inclusive community theater group that welcomes anyone who wants to participate, with no fees or charges like many other existing groups.

The Millcreek Community Theater is for the community. Every year, we put on a holiday show, and this year, we are proud to present “A Christmas Carol”. The entire endeavor is a non-profit venture. We see this as our way to give back to our beloved community using our talents.

We are passionate about providing an opportunity for everyone to participate in theater and experience the joy of performance art. It is a way to bring people together and foster a sense of community. We are grateful for the support we have received and look forward to continuing to provide a platform for creativity and expression in the years to come.

What does success mean to you?
Success is a powerful and multifaceted word that means different things to different people. For Traci and me, success has more of a personal and emotional meaning. Despite challenges and setbacks in our lives, we have been able to build our personal and professional life together, pursuing our passions and giving back to our community.

Through our real estate business and theater group, we strive to find ways to make a positive impact on the world around us. We create opportunities for others to achieve their dreams and experience the joy of their own definitions of success. These successes may be financial or professional, but they can also be creative and emotional triumphs. They have given us a sense of purpose and fulfillment that goes beyond financial gain.

We believe that success is not just about achieving our own goals, but also about making a difference in the lives of others. Through our journey, we have learned that success can inspire us and others to pursue our dreams and make Salt Lake City and Utah a better place to be.

I guess you could say that, as Traci and I pursue our dreams and give back to the community, we find that our definition of success is realized in its truest form in the emotional, personal, and spiritual life we strive to live.
