Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Schumann
Hi Julie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
This is a great question. Where to start , oldest of 5 girls . by some random chance I fell into hair school after I graduated high school , I received a bad hair cut and went In too have some one at the hair school fix it for me and suddenly I was signed up and attending hair school. I was diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes as a teenager so I never had many plans for college or anything I was just still so unsure of what to do next.
I excelled in hair school, loved learning and loved working with people.I won several hair competitions across the country for cut and color both mens and women’s, I ended up teaching at the hair academy and eventually opened my first salon about 7 years after I graduated. I became a mom pretty young, just after hair school. and so doing hair and running my own hours was ideal. As a young mom I was able to be more flexible with hours and clients, and was fortunate to have built a clientele pretty quickly, I also loved teaching so when I chose to open Modifi salon it was a easy transition, I was able to mentor other upcoming stylists, and I also was able to learn and rep for some hair care companies as well. I truly loved and still do love doing hair. The change that can happen to a person in just a matter of hours is pretty awesome !extension work began and I studied and was trained In every method I could find. I soon started seeing people and their struggles and as for myself I seemed to have not picked the best men, so I became very curious about healing modalities, I was very curious on ways to help others and myself just deal with the day to day stresses. This is when I discovered sound healing and energy healing, the dive into this world was facanating, I loved how the simple things I learned to help my self were also helping others and my clients. Drumming and intending peace and happiness for people and truly hearing and seeing them was so fullfilling. After I had my 2nd child a boy , I left hair for some time and worked with people who struggled with substance abuse and mental health. I earned my certificate in mindfulness coaching and family interventions. This was hard work and took a lot of time away from home, so I decided to come back to doing hair and have been working full time as a hair stylist and energy practitioner, hosting sound meditations and healing sessions. And so excited to have started a product line to support both efforts. Natural healing oils that are charged with crystal energy, for use on Hair , skin and nails.
ive now been doing hair for 25 plus years and love working with all sorts of hair, emotional and physical needs. my kids are growing up and my youngest has just a couple of years left of high school and I’m still grateful daily for the ability I have had and the people who support me through this wild ride we call life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Young mom , Diabetes and several divorces have not made life easy , starting some businesses then selling and not getting the money returned , leaving hair and then coming back and having to start over several times . looking back there is lessons in all areas and ive learned so much.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I guess I would say I am known for my work with color and extensions and wigs as well. I love the creative process involved and then adding in the sound meditations allows me to create with an even better tool and a group setting as well.
What’s next?
Just excited to hopefully one day have a wellness center where we can do hair and host many different healing modalities, Reiki , sound therapy and more . I would love to be a one stop shop for self care.
