Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Hill
Hi Karen, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a former elementary school teacher from Alberta, Canada. In 2008 I began a Master’s Program and then moved to Salt Lake City in 2010. While waiting for my Green Card to process, I started to write children’s storybooks and accompanying curriculum. I was able to create a year long Preschool and Kindergarten program that meets educational core standards and prepares children to enter the school system. In 2012, an opportunity came to me to open a childcare center in Draper which I did. I used this curriculum and had great success which led to the opening of a second childcare center. I continued to refine the program as well as to create a Toddler/Year 2 curriculum. In 2021 I moved to St George to escape the cold winters, and opened Discovery Kids Academy in 2022.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to success is seldom smooth, but if we learn from our struggles, we can turn them into successes. The biggest challenge has been maintaining quality staff who are able to implement and advance the educational goals of Discovery Kids Academy in preparing the children for success as they enter the school system.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our childcare center specializes in a teacher-prepared preschool curriculum that enables children to find success when they enter school. We have trained staff who implement the program and provide the love and nurturing children need to gain a strong self esteem that leads to success. Our center is clean, organized and it runs smoothly each day.
