Check Out Kim Gomez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Baker Gomez.

Hi Kim, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! First, thank you for this opportunity!

I’m a mom, wife, licensed esthetician, combo makeup and hair artist and run a mobile makeup and hair team in the greater Bay Area, CA.

I became a fan of makeup as a competitive dancer in high school and found a creative outlet by doing her own. After applying makeup for her teammates during performances and her friends for school dances she fell in love with seeing their reactions of self-love.

During my final two years of college, makeup became an outlet and peaceful space through emotionally trying times.

While teaching preschool full-time, I obtained her esthetician license in 2014 and began building the Kim Baker Beauty brand.

– skin forward makeup application that looks and feels like the elevated version of YOU

– comfortable and bespoke hairstyling to enhance your personal style

– intimate experiences to help people feel grounded, connected, present, and beautiful

– inclusive and gender-affirming experiences for everyone

Now I lead a team of 14 additional artists serving the greater Bay Area from Carmel to Sausalito/Mill Valley.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle I faced in my business has been wanting to move faster than life has allowed me to. In the last few years of teaching, I was burned out and ready to move on. But my business was not ready to replace my teaching income.

It wasn’t until the Pandemic and lockdown that I was able to shift my focus to becoming a full-time entrepreneur. While I was unable to perform beauty services, I focused on skincare education, skincare sales, and coaching other beauty businesses.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Kim Baker Beauty LCC started as just me, Kim, the owner doing makeup for weddings. So often I had to turn down people because they wanted someone who could do makeup AND hair as well as a team that could service their entire wedding party.

I started to work on my hair skills and in the spring of 2022, I made the leap into leading a team of makeup and hair artist.

Now not only am I able to serve people who want makeup and hair for themselves and wedding party, but we can serve multiple weddings in a weekend while I also get to provide income opportunities for artists.

As a team, we are known for the experience as much as the artistry. Our clients always comment on how we made them FEEL throughout the entire planning process. We are a full services experience from beginning to end and do our best to take as much work off the plate of our clients as possible.

We also believe in the power of visibility; seeing each person for who they are regardless of their gender, sexuality, religion, or race. Celebrating every individual who sits in our chairs and providing a unique and grounding experience for each person no matter if they are the one getting married or a guest of theirs.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
In third grade, a dance studio opened nearby, and I started taking weekly classes. One or two classes a week turned into three or four. As a once painfully shy child, I found what lit up my soul. Through high school, I continued dancing at a studio, then joined their competition team and eventually the team at school too.

Dance is where I found my even deeper love for makeup. A way to be creative while also helping people feel good.
