Today we’d like to introduce you to Kylee Shaffer
Kylee , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My love for film started when I was young. I learned at a young age how much of a treasure it is to have captured moments via videos and be able to jump back into a moment through them. My friends and I would set up cameras in my room and make music videos or do the silliest things to laugh at later on. When I was in high school, I began filming random moments in my day-to-day life. Carpool karaokes, high school football games, Christmas with my family throughout the years, vacations, all of the little (and big) moments. I eventually learned how to compile those home videos and used them to create my own personal films. There are not many things I loved more than replaying my favorite moments from my life. Filmmaking became one of my dreams, and I felt a desire spark in my heart to learn how to film professionally so that I could help other people have those treasures, too.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely NOT a smooth road! Being an entrepreneur in the creative world is truly no easy feat… especially with social media and the way the online world is constantly changing. Over the years, I have had many setbacks when it comes to building my brand, finding clients, and expanding my creative portfolio with the changing market. I also have another full-time job on top of my film business, so a huge challenge has been juggling everything along with my personal life. But I will say… it is 100% worth it! It truly fills my heart right up when I get messages from my clients telling me how grateful they are to have their precious moments captured on film. I have filmed weddings, births, missionary homecomings, etc… and being able to give my clients (that often become friends) a memory bottled up in a film is really such an honor.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have been crafting films since 2019 and have loved every minute of it. Having the honor of being a part of my clients’ most important milestones and moments is something that brings me so much joy! I specialize specifically in wedding films, but I also film births, events, missionary homecomings, promotional videos, and more. I sometimes will even step into a recording studio with a band!
I’m really proud of the way my work is versatile while simultaneously full of emotion. I really believe that my work stands out in the Utah creative scene for that reason – the emotion and magic behind it. It is real and raw, but magical.
Film is so special and unique in that way. It captures movement and moments in ways that sometimes even photos cannot. There is something powerful about it, and that is why I do what I do.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
In my opinion, you have to take risks! Taking risks it what pushes you out of your comfort zone. I also believe that risk can sometimes be the thing that elevate one’s work to the next level and it helps you stand out as a creative. The saying “no risk, no reward” proves very true in the creative world, but also in life! Bravery pays off, and also inspires!
