Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Beers.
Hi Laura, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always had stories in my head, but it wasn’t until my children were older that I finally found the courage to write one down. At the time, I had absolutely no experience as a writer. I had graduated from BYU with a degree in Construction Management more than fifteen years earlier, and writing essays had been one of my least favorite parts of college. Becoming an author was never part of my plan.
Still, I felt a strong impression that I should write the story that had been growing in my mind. Those first attempts at writing a Regency romance were far from polished. In fact, they were difficult, frustrating, and, quite honestly, not very good. But I refused to give up. Instead, I sought out experienced authors, asked countless questions, and committed myself to learning the craft. Slowly, chapter by chapter, that first manuscript began to take shape.
I was incredibly fortunate that the very first publisher I queried offered me a contract. That encouragement gave me the confidence to keep writing. I believed my books would eventually find their readers, so I continued releasing new titles every few months.
Nine years later, I’ve published more than seventy books, and writing has become both my career and my greatest passion. I still look forward to waking up early each morning to write, and I now release a new novel every other month. One of the greatest joys of this journey has been the opportunity to mentor aspiring authors and encourage them as they pursue their own publishing dreams.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, the path of an author is rarely easy. Even after becoming an established author, I still struggle with imposter syndrome and moments of self-doubt. While I have been incredibly fortunate to receive mostly positive reviews throughout my career, there are a handful of negative reviews that have stayed with me over the years. Every author wants readers to love their work, so criticism can be difficult, even when you know it comes with the profession.
As an indie author, I am responsible for every aspect of publishing my books. Beyond writing the story itself, I have had to learn editing, publishing, marketing, advertising, and social media. It has been a steep learning curve, but one that has allowed me to build a successful career. Thankfully, I am now at a point where I have an incredible team that helps with every stage of the publishing process. Their support allows me to spend more time doing what I love most: writing stories for my readers.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I write clean Regency romance novels filled with witty banter, memorable characters, mystery, and happily-ever-afters. My stories are designed for readers who enjoy historical romance without explicit content, and I strive to create books that leave readers smiling long after they turn the final page.
Over the past nine years, I have published more than seventy Regency romances. I currently release a new book every other month, a pace that requires discipline, consistency, and a genuine love of storytelling. I wake up every morning at 4:30, eager to write. Those quiet hours before the rest of the world awakens have become my favorite part of the day, allowing me to immerse myself in the lives of my characters and the world they inhabit.
What I am most proud of is the community of readers that has grown around my books. There is no greater compliment than hearing that one of my stories helped someone escape the stresses of everyday life, even if only for a few hours. Knowing my books have brought joy, hope, and comfort to readers is far more rewarding than any sales milestone.
I believe what sets me apart is my commitment to both quality and consistency. I take great care to ensure each novel is historically accurate, engaging, and emotionally satisfying. I also write from dual points of view, allowing readers to experience both the hero’s and heroine’s journeys as they fall in love. My goal has always been to write stories that readers can return to again and again, spending time with characters who feel like old friends.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I am a multi-award-winning author, but I never lose sight of how fortunate I am to do what I love.
More than anything, I am grateful for my readers. Their support has allowed me to turn my passion for writing into a career, and I never take that for granted. Every time someone chooses one of my books, I am reminded how privileged I am to spend my days telling stories and sharing them with readers around the world.
