Check Out Lauren (Lo) Cohen’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren (Lo) Cohen.

Hi Lauren (Lo), so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey into photography began on the East Coast, rooted in a childhood filled with creativity and curiosity. I was always outdoors exploring, sketching, or rearranging my room just to see how a different layout could tell a new story. That same love for visual storytelling naturally led me behind the camera.

I photographed my first wedding for my sister- a fun, and eye-opening experience that revealed how photography could go beyond just capturing moments to actually telling a story. With a long, successful background in events and the hospitality world, stepping into wedding photography felt like a perfect fit. Blending my love for people, meaningful moments, and artistic expression.

To me, there’s a big difference between reacting to a moment and intentionally shaping a narrative. I strive to hold space for couples in a way that lets their story unfold with a beginning, middle, and end – just like a movie. That same intentional approach applies to the private events I cover, including wellness retreats, where care, energy, and atmosphere are just as important as the visuals.

Photography is more than a job — it’s how I honor human connection, preserve emotion, and translate experience into art.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, of course not. The artist complex is very real- constantly questioning if you’re good enough, if you’re charging enough, booking enough, or pushing yourself creatively in the right ways. It can be a mental tug-of-war between self-doubt and passion. Like most creative paths, it hasn’t always been linear.

One of the biggest challenges has been learning to trust the process and not let comparison or perfectionism derail my progress. Additionally being intentional with who I work with, and what I am putting out into the world. For a long time I was a ‘YES’ woman to everyone and everything, but I found that led to doing work that wasn’t always in alignment with my values or the work I wanted to be putting out into the world. I’ve learned that both creativity and business have natural seasons — times of growth, quiet, inspiration, and reevaluation. The key for me has been staying consistent, showing up even when it’s hard, and remembering why I started. That mindset shift helps keep me grounded and moving forward.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in couples, portraits, and private wellness events, working with humans who think outside the box-especially nontraditional brides who’d rather have desert dust on their dress or hike to a remote arch than follow the wedding industry norms. I love supporting elopement planning with permit guidance, location scouting, vendor suggestions, and more.

I’m also passionate about working with small businesses, entrepreneurs, and queer-owned brands. As a business owner myself, I understand the importance of intentional, cohesive visuals. Beyond photography, I offer brand consultations, creative direction, and website support to help bring a brand’s full vision to life. My goal is to be a true creative partner, not just a photographer.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success by how people feel during the experience-not just by the final photograph. A beautiful image means little if the person felt uncomfortable or unseen while it was taken. My goal is always to create a safe, relaxed, and enjoyable environment. Photography is half technical skill, half human connection-and both matter equally.
