Today we’d like to introduce you to MitchCK.
Hi MitchCK, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
During the pandemic, short-form video exploded. People from all over flocked to TikTok in search of an escape from the depressing world.
Early 2020 is when I saw Scott Henry’s “Things White People Say” video on a coworker’s phone. Immediately after, I downloaded TikTok for the first time.
I was hooked. The sheer amount of content people were making was insane. And I was strictly a consumer.
That was, until I started to see more and more Shower Thoughts and “Unanswerable” questions find their way onto my “For You Page.”
People LOVED them.
I’d look through the comments, and see people everywhere saying things like:
“My mind is blown!”
“This will keep me up all night.”
“I need answers!”
That was it.
They needed answers. And I had them.
In college, I was a curious kid. I’d spend a lot of time browsing the Shower Thoughts questions on Reddit and other places on the internet.
I knew there had to be answers to all these questions.
And there was.
And now, years after graduating from college, I saw an opportunity to use some of the seemingly useless information I had gathered.
So I began to “duet” and “stitch” (TikTok terms) these creators with questions and gave them the answers they were looking for.
Now, not everyone wants answers. And that’s okay. But there was a large number who did.
Just like that, a community was born.
That community now includes over 300,000 people on TikTok and over 100,000 on Instagram.
YouTube is next.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Look, everyone has heard that social media can be an ugly place. It really can be. If you find success on any platform, you will find the opposite as well.
When you pray for rain, you have to deal with the mud.
My content isn’t for everyone. And I know that.
So hate will rear its ugly head, and people will flood your comments, aiming hurtful insults at every turn.
But at the end of the day, I only try to control what I can. If it’s out of my control, I don’t put energy towards it.
For every hater, there is someone else radiating with encouragement. There are some awesome people in my community. And they deserve my energy.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a marketing guy. That’s what I do for my career. It’s also what I do on the side as a consultant.
I love marketing.
Now, content creation is just a hobby of mine. But what it has done, is give me some credibility.
There are consultants, agencies, and executives that will tell you what you should do on TikTok. What you should do on Instagram. What your digital strategy should be. How you should position yourself. How to build a digital brand presence. How to build an audience. How to talk to people.
The list goes on.
But how many of those have actually done it? Few. Very few.
I’m doing it.
I set out to do what I’m doing on TikTok to prove to myself that I could. To take my knowledge of marketing and messaging and make it work in a way that would resonate with people. And I’m proud to say that I’m doing it.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My dad took me to Alaska on a fishing trip. I’ll cherish the one-on-one time I got with him forever.
