Today, we’d like to introduce you to MOF Jayy.
Hi MOF, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m originally from the Bay Area. Antioch, California, to be exact. I grew up adapting to different cultures around the Bay throughout my life & music has had a big influence on it, coming from a place like this. I grew up in a music-based household where my Dad came from singing in the church along with my grandmother, who always kept vinyl records to play. I later caught onto having an ear for music and applied that to writing raps since 14 years old.
During my senior year of high school, I created multiple freestyle videos that went viral back to back on Instagram & that’s when I knew fresh out of high school that this was the path that I was taking. Just a few years later, I resided in Utah during the pandemic & needed to act fast with my next move. Since everyone was on their phones during this time period, I started rapping for multiple Celebrities, Athletes, Influencers, etc., on Instagram Live and would have my fans tag me in their comment section.
Doing these live shows months down the line has paid off for me & resulted in me getting Label Offers & crazy exposure from audiences across the world. Once I introduced myself to the Utah scene, I started getting booked for shows at venues like “The Complex” and “Granary Live” and started branching out my audience into this region. Currently, I’m continuing to grow as an artist & establishing a foundation here.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been easy, but for the most part, it’s all been worth it.
There’s always ups and downs that come with this journey, especially coming into a new environment like Utah where the music scene is at a slower pace. But it’s safe to say that I’ve built a team here that believe in my vision & are willing to help shift the culture out here.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Rap Artist by the stage name “MOF Jayy”. Most people know me from my Instagram freestyles & my most anticipated single “West Coast Baby”.
I’m most proud of building an audience on a platform during a tragic time like the pandemic & with that, establishing my career, giving it a jump start. What sets me apart from others is my versatility.
Within every song, I include my West Coast style into my music & put my own spin on it, complementing different genres of music. The goal is to always make “Feel Good” Music.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
One thing I’d want to share is to stay tuned for what I have in store, & to pay attention to the growth of this journey & what’s yet to come.
