Shad’s Success Story: Turning Scars into Strength
My name is Shad. I’m 39 years old, and my journey has been anything but easy. I’ve spent over 3,000 days incarcerated. I’ve battled addiction. I’ve been to rehab not once, but twice. I’ve hit rock bottom—and then chose to fight my way back up.
Today, I’m over five years clean. I’ve taken everything I’ve survived and turned it into a mission to help others feel confident, strong, and whole again.
My focus and passion now lie in Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)—a powerful, life-changing solution for people dealing with hair loss. SMP isn’t just about appearance; it’s about restoring confidence and giving people a fresh start. Every client I work with is a reminder of how powerful transformation can be—something I know firsthand.
I’ve been in and out of the barbering world since 2017, but SMP was where I truly found my purpose. It allows me to combine technical skill with personal connection—bringing healing and confidence to the people I serve.
Beyond SMP, I’m also a certified personal trainer and a two-time bodybuilding competitor. Fitness has been a key part of my recovery, giving me structure, discipline, and a healthy outlet to keep pushing forward.
Everything I do today—from the SMP studio to the weight room—is rooted in one goal: helping people become the best version of themselves. I know what it’s like to feel lost, and I know what it takes to rise again.
If my story proves anything, it’s that no matter how far you’ve fallen, with commitment and purpose, you can come back stronger—and build a life you’re truly proud of.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For the most part opening up my business have been somewhat easy, however operating and finding good employees are hard to find but it’s like that in any business though I feel like.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was adopted at a very young age from South America—Peru—and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada by my adoptive parents, along with two siblings. I’m the middle child in a tight-knit family that valued faith, structure, and hard work. Growing up in a religious household, I was taught discipline and strong morals early on. I stayed active in sports—football, soccer, wrestling, and competitive swimming—all of which gave me a drive to compete and push myself. Those early lessons in resilience and determination still guide me today as I continue to build a life rooted in purpose, growth, and helping others.
