Today we’d like to introduce you to Raclette Haus.
Hi Raclette, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was always fascinated with food trucks. So when we moved to Utah, my son Shayn and I, decided to start a food truck. We purchased a decommissioned Ambulance and had it converted.
We are huge fans of Raclette and when the previous truck, Raclette Machine closed, we decided to start our own Raclette truck, hence, Raclette Haus was born. A little Swiss, a little French, and a little German. Serving delicious, melted & scraped Raclette cheese the traditional way over Baked Potatoes, over Käse Spätzle, or our Shroomies or Cuban sandwiches. We love Raclette and so will you.
What is Raclette? Raclette comes from the French word that means “to scrape” and refers to both the type of cheese and the traditional Swiss dish it is served with. Cheese legend says the dish originated hundreds of years ago when farmers would heat up a piece of cheese over the open fire for a hearty and filling meal.
Our logo is a cow wearing a flower crown. In Switzerland, after the cows have been grazing in the mountains during the summer they descend and are driven/herded through the villages wearing flower crowns and of course the famous cow bells to winter in the valley.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Due to Covid, we experienced many delays in getting the truck ready due to not being able to find parts or delays in shipping.
When we finally got started at the end of April last year, yeah, 1 year Anniversary, we were late for getting bookings.
With the help of other truck owners and the Food Truck League, we were able to get scheduled for some Events. We are excited for this year and hope to be super busy.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Originally from Germany and prior to moving to Utah, we lived in the Caribbean for many years where I managed and owned my own restaurant. It was an amazing life experience.
After the Caribbean, we moved to Ireland and then the U.S. It is amazing to experience so many different cultures.
For now, we are very happy here in Utah, we have different Seasons, which is a nice change from year-round Summer.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
Bad luck was that COVID delayed our start. Good luck is that the food truck community here in Utah is very supportive which we immensely appreciate.
