Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamra Callahan.
Hi Tamra, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I had been a professional dancer and acrobat most of my life and had a child and got divorced and needed to sort of reinvent my life. I moved back to Utah when my mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. I no longer wanted to coach and teach gymnastics and dance for the reason that it is nights and weekends and away from my son and I was really the only parent around so I needed to have a day job and I started cleaning Home’s temporarily using green products and then realized this was a good niche and there was no other Green company in Salt Lake City that I knew of at the time. So I expanded and turned into a company since I have an Entrepreneur background and after 2 to 3 years was able to work myself out of doing the labor and have grown substantially over 12 years have hundreds of five star reviews and give jobs to about eight individuals. We take pride and serving the SALT LAKE Valley and surrounding areas with green or natural products and make life a little less complicated for busy people we love to be around pets and families and have made wonderful relationships throughout the years.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been a rough road. I boot strapped the business and it goes up and down so there were times we had an empty fridge in the beginning and I never had child support as a single mother so I was just always on the hustle. It did take a toll on my health quite a bit and it’s not the most friendly industry I would say. A lot of people don’t have a lot of respect for what we do and how hard it is and a very critical or expect too much I guess we would call them Karen’s but overall the clients who have stuck around all these years have been wonderful and supportive, and we appreciate them so much.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Well, we are a cleaning company that specializes in residential and we use more natural products that are safe for families and pets. We are big enough to have extra staff if someone calls in sick but small enough that you would be able to know all of our staff. So strangers aren’t coming in and out every week.
What does success mean to you?
Success to me has changed over the years. I think that question now today means having my needs met, having all of my staff needs met and still being able to enjoy downtime and time off while the world keeps turning.
