Albert Archuleta began his barbering career in October 2013, quickly establishing himself as a skilled barber. After two years working in a shop, he opened his own, starting with just one chair. Albert’s dedication and expertise allowed him to expand his business, growing to an eight-chair shop and later opening two more locations.
As a licensed instructor since 2017, he has mentored aspiring barbers, contributing significantly to the profession. Under his leadership, his shops have won three prestigious awards, including “Best of Salt Lake City,” “Best of Murray” for two consecutive years, and “Best of West Valley,” showcasing his commitment to excellence in the barbering industry.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I struggled with avoiding the allure of street life and the temptation to sell drugs, as it seemed like the “easy way out.” However, having children changed my perspective; I didn’t want to risk my freedom and return to prison. Finding employment was challenging due to my criminal record, especially before I discovered barbering.
Adapting to the role of a good leader was difficult because of my previous gang mentality. I also faced challenges with stereotypes and frequent rejection due to my criminal history. Balancing the responsibilities of fathering three children while managing a business was also particularly challenging.

One of the major risks I’ve taken was embarking on the entrepreneurship journey by founding Regal Barber Co. Despite having a challenging background. I ventured into a highly competitive industry. This decision came with the uncertainty of leaving behind a more predictable path, investing my resources into a dream, and facing the stigma of my past. My responsibility towards my family heightened the stakes, making the risk of failure seem daunting.
However, I was driven by the belief that establishing a business that reflects my values—service excellence, fostering community, and inclusivity—could make a meaningful difference. The risk was not just financial but deeply personal, involving my reputation and future.
