Community Highlights: Meet Anna Welch of Le Petit Sweet Bakery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Welch.

Anna Welch

Hi Anna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Growing up my favorite day of the week was Sunday because I got together with all my cousins for homemade ice cream at grandma and grandpa’s house. As I got older, numbers started dissipating. I would then help my mom in the kitchen baking and cooking for our family dinners. Being the fifth child out of six, I quickly realized that food brings my family together and I loved that.

I eventually started a small wedding cake business when I was 16 years old and have shifted over the years after many years of travel. Luckily enough, I was able to travel to Europe and indulge in the incredible pastries. I wanted to bring a taste of Europe and foreign places back to my home. After much practice, I created Le Petit Sweet Bakery food truck and am now taking on private event clients.

The delicious desserts called “Sweeties” are designed after the French dessert of mousse cakes. I was inspired to create these not only for the light and airy nature of them but they are naturally gluten-free. I have close family and friends that have celiac and cannot normally have desserts out of a food truck.

I wanted this to change. I was inspired by my family, the deep history of France, and all the amazing people I have met along my journey. There is nothing like bringing groups of people from all different backgrounds over a delicious and delectable dessert.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. When I first started doing wedding cakes, I quickly realized I didn’t have the patience for them, yet I kept going. I learned ways to deal with this stress after years of working on it. Some cakes melted in the sun due to my lack of double-checking.

So many people tried to help me with these cakes but were turned away in an angry tone because of my lack of patience. I thank them for always sticking by me and supporting me from afar. Once I decided to change my brand, I struggled to find a food truck and then struggled to renovate it. I didn’t know where to even begin starting. After months of renovations and a lot of YouTube, it was done.

I think one other thing that was a struggle was my desire to be different. Growing up in a household of 6 kids it’s easy to blend in. Although, by nature, I enjoy not being the center of attention, I wanted to be different than my siblings. It took years to get to that point of self-confidence but I did it and have come out on top.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Le Petit Sweet Bakery?
I am a caterer and private events food truck. Le Petit specializes in “Sweeties” also known as mousse cakes. They are dome-shaped mousse draped in a white chocolate glaze. I can make almost any flavor and they are all gluten-free.

The thing that sets Le Petit apart is the cozy nature we try to bring to any event. With a light color scheme and a designated seating area beside the truck, you are sure to feel cozy and special. Another thing that sets us apart is the delicate desserts that we bring. Inspired by the history of French pastries, I have created mousse cakes to not only look incredible but taste even better. There’s nothing else like it in the Utah market.

I am most proud of the family roots of the brand. It didn’t just happen one day and out of nowhere. Le Petit is a small family-owned business and I couldn’t be more proud. I appreciate all the support my family has given me and that it brings us all together again. We have all moved out of the house and some siblings have started families. Life gets busy and this brings us together.

I want readers to understand that this will be perfect for weddings, parties, reunions, and neighborhood events. Any event that you can think of this is perfect for it. We offer catering events and different flavor options. We even have merchandise (Le Petit t-shirts) ready to sell. Because it is a small business, every need will be taken care of for my customers. You don’t need to worry.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
My favorite childhood memory is trailer camping with my family.

Road trips were a huge thing growing up and every summer we would pull our trailer to a different destination. To entertain all of the kids, we would each choose a song to sing and spend hours singing each other’s picks.
