Today we’d like to introduce you to Aubrielle Gillespie.
Hi Aubrielle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always loved being in the kitchen, it’s my happy place. I remember making pies with my dad growing up and thinking it was the funnest thing. I pursued that interest and became involved in the culinary classes at my high school. I joined the competitive culinary team and learned and grew so much because of that opportunity. I began baking cakes and learning to decorate at this time too. I sold my first cake (which I look back at and can’t believe someone paid money for) and started learning as much as I could about baking. I watched videos and practiced a whole lot. I loved it! Around this same time, I spent a year at culinary school and learned so much! Things I learned there aided me as I continued to practice the art of cake making. I now have a small cake business I run! It is so fun to be able to do something I love so often and to be a part of others’ lives in this way. I am learning new things all the time and am so grateful to be growing in this way!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Like with anything new, I started out knowing close to nothing! It wasn’t exactly rocket science, but making cakes that looked and tasted great was not an easy task. I’ve dealt with many temperamental cakes that just wouldn’t work with me. I’ve had to start over, throw away, stay up late, and just do lots of things I didn’t exactly plan on. That’s one of the biggest things I’m learning, that you have to roll with the punches! Things will hardly ever go exactly how you planned, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make it work!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I run a small cake business in Utah County called Happy Cakes! I make cakes and cupcakes for all kinds of events and specialize in wedding cakes. I offer cakes made from scratch in a variety of flavors. I take pride in my ability to make custom orders and bring customers’ ideas to life! No two cakes are the same, each is unique to the customer! I take my time with each order and ensure it meets high standards. Happy Cakes can provide you with a beautiful, delicious, and memorable cake for your next event!
What do you think about happiness?
So many things make me happy! One of them being making cakes for others, hence the name happy cakes! But there are many other things that make me even more happy. One of those is relationships. Those with my family and friends are so precious to me. Nothing makes me happier than the people close to me. Any relationship I get to make with someone new, especially customers, makes me so happy! People bring me joy because they are just so amazing and kind. This makes me grateful for all the wonderful people and things in my life and I can’t help but be happy!
