Community Highlights: Meet Brax Johnson of Boothe Music

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brax Johnson.

Hi Brax, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Boothe Brothers Music started in 1983 with one guitar on the wall and Steve Boothe, our founder, teaching guitar lessons. In 1984, Mike Boothe, Steve’s brother, came on board to help the growing business manage the logistics. From there, Boothe Bros flourished. In the early 90s, they moved into the building that they’re still in on Spanish Fork Main Street. In 2020, one of Steve’s family members approached him about investing in the store. Steve countered with an offer of his own – to outright buy it. After almost 40 years as the leader of southern Utah County’s premium music store, Steve was ready to retire. In 2021, the sale was final, and Boothe Brothers Music became Boothe Music.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Music is all about bringing people together, that’s our core belief. Our biggest struggle in recent history was, of course, the COVID-19 pandemic. We were sad to see our in-person one-on-one lessons go for the first year of the pandemic, but once we were able to return and hear the beautiful music in our building, it helped us remember what music is all about.

As you know, we’re big fans of Boothe Music. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Boothe Music is Utah County’s premier music store, offering everything you need to get started, keep going, or master your music journey. From instruments like guitars, percussion, orchestra, and band, to a massive selection of print music, instrument accessories, in-person lessons, and more. We pride ourselves in offering the best customer service, a fun environment, and helping everyone succeed in music.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The power of music to bring people together is one of the strongest forces we know of. From campfire songs, to musical performances, to church hymns, singing in the shower, iPods in bed, and anything else, music has power.
