Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Spealler.
Hi Chris, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Park City fit was founded in 2007 when I started coaching clients and teaching classes out of the corner of a rec center. Our first specific location was in the Summit Center in a 1300 sq ft. unit in 2008. We expanded with varying units in the Summit Center 3 more times increasing our space and offerings through 2019. In 2019 we were fortunate enough to purchase land on Forestdale Drive and began the process of building our own specific training facility for our clients. In September of 2022, we opened our doors to our new home for our members which is a 10,000 sq ft facility with men and women’s locker rooms, office space, and a variety of equipment to help our clients best. Over the course that 15 years I worked for the CrossFit Seminar staff teaching over 300 seminars, helping design coach and athlete development courses, and was fortunate enough to also compete in 7 CrossFit Games as an individual.
By 2016 I had stepped away from competing and traveling for teaching seminars to get more time at home. All of these experiences have lent themselves to a deeper understanding of how to best serve our clients. We are truly a grassroots, local business that has started from the ground up. Our vision has always been to serve our existing clients as best as possible and continues to be.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Getting to where we are today has been nothing short of challenging. Running a small business in a highly competitive market like the fitness industry presents its own challenges, but working to complete the construction of our building was a milestone for us.
We purchased the land in the spring of 2019 and as we know 1 year later COVID hit. We had to close our doors for two months. Fortunately, we have an amazing community that supported us during this time. We gave our equipment to members for use, ran zoom classes, did one on one training at distance in driveways or garages, etc. This, along with the amazing people we have, kept our community alive.
Working with the county to get a building permit took us just over 18 months. We had to send in 8 different engineering plans due to requests with door locations and parking requirements. This along with a number of other logistics, supply chain, additional challenges with COVID, etc was one of the most challenging times during our journey. Thankfully, we, along with the support of the community were able to move into our “forever home” in September of 2022.
We’ve been impressed with Park City Fit, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Park City Fit is a strength and conditioning facility that has been in business for over 15 years. We offer group classes, one on one training, and work with a variety of age groups. Our trainers are true professionals, constantly working to develop themselves and their skill set so they can continually better serve members in the gym.
Our focus isn’t simply providing a workout for members but making their time in the gym one of the best hours of their day. This comes through the way we engage with one members, the supportive and fun culture that is created in the gym, as well as the expertise in coaching. Instead of simply providing a workout we offer varying options that customize movements and workouts so they best serve the individual. We understand that people have varying needs and fitness isn’t always a one sized fits all approach. We work to provide solutions to individuals’ needs through professional coaching all while giving them the opportunity to do this in a group environment which so many us love.
Members can choose from 3 different services:
-Group Class: we offer varying approaches to our workouts including the movements every day to help people choose what is best for them.
-Elevated: members work with a specific coach where they go through an assessment and goal setting to find the best approach for them. Each workout is customized for the member based off of their specific needs by the coach and provided through an app on their phone. This also includes weekly check-ins and allows people to know they are doing what is best for them in the group environment
-One on One: a number of our members take advantage of one on one training that allow us to work specifically on any need they may have. These can be 30 min to 1 hr blocks and also include small group training if members want to bring a friend!
We also offer a teen athletic performance program called MOVE which helps young athletes increase performance, prevent injury, and learn how to safely perform lifts for their training outside of specific sports.
Additional Options:
-Open Gym only: access the gym at varying hours to workout on your own, outside of class time. Members access the door via an app on their phone and can use the gym for their personal workouts.
Personally, I am most proud of both the culture we work to create with a welcoming environment matched with some of the most professional coaching in the country.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We have worked to support a number of local nonprofits over the years in our community. We love the small town, grassroots vibe and ultimately want to find ways to best serve our clients or offer services for those that need it coming from other places.
We also work to develop relationships with other businesses in town that may help serve our clients in ways in broader scopes. Physical Therapy clinics are one example of this.
Additionally, we do lease out our space for events if people/groups are interested or in need of that.
