Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Reeves.
Hi Crystal, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi! I’m Crystal Reeves. I’m a wife, mom to six kids, four dogs, four goats. I live next door to not only my parents but also my twin brother (how cool is that!).
I run my business in my backyard. You know how they say “find what you love and figure out a way to get paid for it”? That’s exactly what I did. I’ve loved dogs my whole life, went to school to be a veterinary technician, and worked at a couple veterinarian hospitals. I worked as a dog trainer at PetSmart for three years, and have worked at boarding facilities. I decided to go for my dream of owning a business of my own in 2020 – I have not “worked” a day since.
Experience taught me that most boarding is just barely one step up from doggie jail cells. That really is entirely unacceptable. I wanted to build something that is as close to a doggy vacation as I could. I want to make Paws-itive Results the place where your dog goes on vacation. I’ve been slowly adding things to my business to reach that goal. I don’t have employees and run/build everything myself. I think that’s best as the more people working with your dog, the more miscommunications happen. I have always loved taking pictures and I remember how nice it is to get pictures of my dog when I’m out of town. So I decided that will be something I will always do. It’s scary to go to the vets or boarding place’s because it’s cold floors, weird smells, and nothing like home. I’ve tried to help with that last part. I try to treat every dog I have here as my family. My kids come out and play with them, lots of fun stuff to do, lots of personal love and care..
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a struggle to keep the dogs relatively quiet for the neighbors. I’ve had a few people work for me but for the most part I’ve done everything on my own. With approximately 48+ hrs 7 days a week gets exhausting! It’s been hard to find good help because I love these dogs like my own and I’m afraid to trust someone with my many dogs.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Paws-itive Results LLC?
I run a free play doggy daycare and boarding for big dogs (40+lbs) only. Like a supervised dog park vacation! I thought of all kinds of things a dog would love like, running, digging in the sand pit, two ball pits, slides, tunnels, pools, stick library, structures to climb on and farm animals.
I do extra little things as well like birthday parties, splash pads, monthly toy subscriptions, dress up for holidays, Easter egg hunts, and treat puzzles on rainy days.
The main thing that customers love that I do is that I send pictures everyday!
We are also the home of the #lilromeosadventures. Pet parents drop off their dog and take my little stuffed animal that looks like my dog Romeo. They take a picture on him on their adventures somewhere that SAYS where they are and send it to me. I post it on our social media so people can follow where Romeo travels to. Lil Romeo has been to 24 locations around the world in the past 8 months. The pet marts get $20 for sending the picture on their account! It’s been lots of fun!
I also do charcoal drawings of the dogs I watch randomly and give them out to the pet parents or do commission drawings.
