Community Highlights: Meet Dave Kempe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dave Kempe.

Dave, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a child, I was always drawn to nature and the animals that inhabit it. I spent countless hours wandering through the woods, observing the beauty of the natural world. As I grew older, my love for nature and animals never waned.

It was no surprise that I found my calling in life as a wildlife photographer. My passion for photography was instilled in me by my father, who was a photographer himself. I learned the art of photography from him and developed my unique style over the years. My goal is not just to capture stunning images of wildlife, but also to showcase the animals in their natural habitat and to learn about each animal’s personality.

Over the years, I have traveled all over the world to capture the most beautiful and fascinating animals on this earth. I have seen everything from majestic elephants to fierce lions to tiny hummingbirds. Each animal has a unique personality and story to tell, and it is my job to capture that essence in my photographs.

When I am out in the field, I feel like a child again, filled with a sense of wonder and amazement. I am constantly in awe of the beauty and complexity of the natural world. My photography style is to shoot the animal in a way that allows the viewer to get to know the animal’s soul and look into their eyes. I want my photographs to create a connection between the viewer and the animal, to help people understand and appreciate the beauty and value of these magnificent creatures.

I use the best camera equipment in the world to ensure that every detail is captured in stunning clarity. My photographs have been featured in numerous publications, and I have won multiple awards for my work.

For me, wildlife photography is not just a profession; it is a way of life. It is a way for me to share my passion for nature and animals with the world. I am passionate about treating animals with respect and creating images that celebrate their beauty and value.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me and my wildlife photography.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In 2016, I was involved in a car accident that changed my life forever. I was rear-ended by another vehicle going at a speed of 70 mph. The accident left me with severe injuries that required months of rehabilitation and therapy.

Continue pursuing my craft. It was through the act of photographing wildlife that I found a sense of purpose and healing.

Initially, I struggled to keep up with the physical demands of wildlife photography. I had to find new ways to move around the field, carry my gear, and get into the right positions for the perfect shot. It was a daunting task, but one that I was determined to overcome.

I learned to slow down and be more deliberate in my movements. I became more patient, waiting for the perfect moment to capture a particular animal. I also learned to appreciate the beauty of the world around me in a way that I had never before. The challenges I faced forced me to look at the world with new eyes and find new ways to capture it.

My struggles have also made me more compassionate toward wildlife. I have always been passionate about treating animals with respect, but my journey has given me a deeper understanding of their strength and resilience. I am grateful for every opportunity I have to capture their beauty and share it with the world.

Through it all, wildlife photography has been my constant companion. It has been a source of healing, inspiration, and joy. Although my journey has been a difficult one, I am proud of the photographer I have become, and I am grateful for the new perspective my struggles have given me.

If you are facing your challenges, I encourage you to find a passion that will keep you moving forward. For me, wildlife photography has been a lifeline, and I hope that my story can inspire others to find their source of healing and inspiration.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a happy, curious, and adventurous child. I always had a sense of wonder and a desire to explore the world around me. As a small child, I would often escape the house and wander into the nearby woods.

My family would jokingly refer to me as “the moose,” and would call out “The moose is loose!” and the search for me would begin. Despite my explorations, I was also very athletic and participated in a variety of sports. While I was slightly shy and kept mostly to myself, I found solace and comfort in nature.

It was there that I felt most at home and most in touch with myself.
