Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Arcadio Maldonado.
Hi Denise Arcadio, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I always had the desire to help people feel beautiful. I had been at my regular job for about 8 years and felt the urge to do something more. I came across a lash training course and, learned that in order to do this, I needed a license. I looked up a nearby school, scheduled a visit, and submitted my application all on the same day. As I continued my education to become an esthetician, I fell more and more in love with my new profession. In addition to working full-time, I was a full-time student. It was the hardest year of my life. I eventually received my degree, passed my state exams, and was prepared to begin working. I first worked two days a week in a salon with just my mom as a client. But I put forth a lot of effort, trained frequently, attended various lash trainings, and sought to market myself. My books began to gradually fill up as I added more days. I was known as the fluffy lash technician in the salon. 3 years later, I am now currently in my own salon studio, my second home!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been easy sailing at all. I’ve spent many restless nights doubting my ability and wondering if I made the correct choice. As a first-born Mexican-American, I am trying my best to make my family proud. It’s challenging not having family to approach for business advice as I am the first person in my family to start a business. They do, however, encourage me and are always willing to assist me. Even though I’ve been doing this for about 4 years, I can still claim that challenges persist. I wouldn’t want it any other way, though.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an expert in lash extensions. I’ve participated in numerous lash trainings. I enjoy playing with curls of all shapes and sizes. I’m always seeking for fresh mapping or instructional films. I want to be able to give my customers the lashes of their dreams. I make it a point to discuss with them what they enjoy and don’t like about their previous lashes throughout our session. We discuss styles, lengths, and sizes. I’m not like a regular lash tech, and I’m a cool lash tech. I currently intend to provide trainings to assist other lash technicians who are having similar difficulties as I did. A hands-on work shadowing opportunity. I take the most pride in creating stunning lashes and making my clients feel beautiful.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My mom has supported me from day one, letting me practice on her countless of times. She’s had faith in me and my goals. Ana, from designing my first logo to listening to my crazy ideas and assisting me in finding a means to make them a reality, and Ana has been there for me. I appreciate Elsa’s assistance while I travel the lash path. When I’m having trouble solving a particular issue, I usually bounce ideas off of her. Find yourself a friend like Elsa. I also would like to thank all of my customers, both past and present, for making it possible for me to be where I am now. They have all been incredibly helpful to me in several ways. And of course, my supportive and encouraging family.
