Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Weil.
Hi Diana , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a pretty medical family, so health and nutrition were always something I was interested in. But in school, I developed a pretty substantial fear of math and science, and I quickly wrote off any career that involved heavy coursework in those areas.
I ended up graduating with a degree in anthropology, which I loved, but I wasn’t sure how to turn it into a career. I spent a few years feeling a bit lost, trying to find my path. During that time, I became certified as a yoga teacher and a health coach. I loved health coaching, but I wanted to understand more of the “why”.
One day after a yoga class, I ran into a friend who mentioned she was getting her master’s in nutrition. It was a lightbulb moment for me. I applied to a program, which meant facing my fear of math and science head-on. And as it turned out I actually loved these classes the most. I just needed the right teachers and the right context.
While I never envisioned working in a hospital or focusing on weight loss (which seemed like the default paths), those were the available jobs after graduation. I became a nutrition coach at a well-known weight loss company, and it was there that I truly began to understand how complex our relationships with food can be—and how much support people need in that area.
After a few years, I left to build my own full-time private practice. I now work with clients to help them optimize their health and well-being through an integrative approach. Becoming an entrepreneur has also opened doors to consulting work—helping companies talk about food in a more positive and empowering way, developing recipes, and writing science-backed content.
I never imagined this is where my path would lead, and it wasn’t always a smooth ride—but I’m so grateful to be where I am now.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No! I really struggled to find a job that felt aligned with how I wanted to practice as a nutritionist and also live. I knew a traditional 9-5 wasn’t going to work for me. It felt like I had to choose between selling myself to make a living or sticking to my values, but working multiple jobs. Taking the leap and working for myself was terrifying, and there have been times when I thought, “I’ve made it!” only to turn around and find that I had no clients or source of income. There are still days when I wake up with no clue what I’m doing and I just have to hope for the best.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Diana Weil LLC ?
I am a certified dietitian with a private practice, helping both men and women optimize their health through nutrition. I focus on building positive relationships with food and use an integrative approach, meaning I look at not just what they’re eating but also what their sleep looks like, their relationships, exercise, work, how they feel in their body, etc. You can’t separate what you’re eating from everything else going on in life. My mission is to help people find more joy in their health and nutrition and to alleviate some of the fear that we’re constantly exposed to.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I am a moderate risk taker. I think that risks are necessary in business, but that doesn’t mean it’s been easy for me to take them! When making a big leap, I like to know that there’s a parachute to catch me. The biggest risk I’ve taken is quitting my day job to start working for myself. It was WELL worth it and also completely terrified me.
