Today we’d like to introduce you to Hollie Hauptly.
Hi Hollie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I first became a doula after the birth of my first child in 2009. His birth literally changed my life! I completely changed my career from teaching 5th grade to becoming a birth professional-just a few short months after his birth.
My last assignment for my Master’s degree was due the morning that my water broke, but after having the support from a doula and having an amazing birth experience, I made a complete shift in where my life was headed. I wanted to help other women have a strong, confident start to motherhood with the added support and education that is missing in today’s society.
I quickly began training and serving women during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I finally found something I was passionate about! I became the girl in town that knew “all the things” and was the go-to person to answer questions and offer suggestions.
With a little push from my husband, I also began training to become a childbirth educator to teach birth classes in 2011. I combined my love for teaching and my passion for birth and soon after started teaching birth classes. I wrote the curriculum and created a very successful birth class. I considered myself a success when midwives started referring their clients, and even family members to my classes.
After moving to Texas in December of 2012 for my husband to attend Parker University, I quickly learned about an organization called Birth Boot Camp. They trained childbirth educators to teach their award-winning curriculum to expecting families. I attended their next training in April 2013 and have been teaching Birth Boot Camp classes ever since. I’ve been privileged to teach hundreds of families over the past 9 years, helping them to prepare for pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and early parenting.
In 2018 I was invited by the owner of Birth Boot Camp to become a trainer to teach others how to become doulas and childbirth educators. I have been able to travel all over the U.S. teaching training and helping other women start very fulfilling, successful careers as birth professionals. I have found great joy in helping other women succeed!
Soon after, I became a trainer, I quickly advanced in the company. I was welcomed as a member of the Headquarters team, helping to manage the everyday workings of Birth Boot Camp. I helped with social media, blogging, graphic design, and a ton more. I loved working with an amazing team of women to grow and build a company that was working to make a difference and improve birth in the U.S.
Finally, in 2020, I was again approached by the owner of Birth Boot Camp and was asked if I’d be interested in purchasing the company. Oddly enough, my husband and I had been joking about possibly buying the company, but we were thinking it might be ten years before that would happen, not two! It didn’t take much convincing! I immediately said yes and over the next year and a half, I prepared to take over as owner and CEO of Birth Boot Camp.
On Jan. 29th, 2021, I officially became the owner and CEO of Birth Boot Camp. It’s been just over a year and I have absolutely loved it! While not always easy, I have learned so much in just a year’s time. I have pushed myself outside of my comfort zone and accomplished so much. We are continually working to grow the Birth Boot Camp community all across the U.S.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest challenges that I’ve had to overcome is my natural tendency to be quiet and shy.
It’s taken years and lots of practice, but it’s no longer something that keeps me from reaching for my dreams. I’ve practiced with friends and family and put myself in situations that I would normally avoid. I’m now very comfortable networking, speaking in front of others, and talking business with just about everyone. I even started a podcast!
As a woman, wife, homeschooling mom, friend, etc. It can be a challenge to juggle work and personal life. It’s something I am still working on today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Birth Boot Camp specializes in preparing couples for an amazing birth and breastfeeding experience.
We believe birth can be a defining moment for families. We provide the knowledge and tools needed to make informed decisions and have amazing births through quality education and support from a growing community of certified childbirth educators and doulas.
Birth Boot Camp is the #1 original online childbirth class. We offer a variety of classes to meet the needs of today’s families that are preparing to welcome a new baby. They can take one of our online birth classes or find a local certified instructor in their area.
Birth Boot Camp also offers online and in-person training to women looking to begin their career as childbirth educators, birth doulas, and/or postpartum doula. We have an amazing community of birth professionals serving their communities all across the U.S.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Consistency. This is something that has served me well throughout my entire career.
It’s the small things we do every day to grow our business that consistently makes the biggest difference. Even when it feels like you’re just spinning your wheels and not making any progress, remain consistent and you’ll soon see the rewards of all of the work you’ve put in.
The work I do is also very relationship-based. Working with personal clients, health care providers, and other customers is about so much more than just making a sale or getting a contract. It’s a privilege to be invited into someone’s birth space during one of the most intimate moments in their lives.
Building relationships is key in the work I do.
