Hi Jamie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It was 2023 and I was a very busy mom to three very small, beautiful children: 1 and 3-year-old girls and a 6-year-old boy.
One day, my good friend Kristy was telling me she was going to start getting electrolysis treatments. I had never heard of it before! She talked about how it was permanent hair removal that worked on all types of hair (even the blondies). Laser hair removal doesn’t work on blonde hair and I don’t love body hair so I made an appointment shortly after.
At each electrolysis session, I started asking the electrologist tons of questions about how it worked, how to get educated on the subject, etc. It turns out, she was a teacher at the Utah School of Hair Removal in Clearfield, where they certify electrologists. It was something that I just couldn’t stop thinking about.
At night, I was YouTubing satisfying videos of people’s hair’s getting zapped and removed. However, I was a stay-at-home mom with three children to look after, and traveling an hour away to school four days a week for 7+ hours a day didn’t seem feasible.
I had many conversations with close friends and it started to feel more right. I wanted more financial security and my most authentic self wanted to explore this! After weeks of consideration, and figuring out that it really was possible for me, I signed up for the following semester.
School was only around 4 months. There was an online portion, then the in person course. It was a class of four girls and they are still some of my best friends to this day. I gained an education, financial freedom, and more self confidence. I created an Instagram while I was in school and my LLC, and opened my business the month after graduation. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly, it really has been a pretty smooth road. I had a lot of help from my dad and friends to help create my electrolysis clinic. My brother also helped me with SEO to help my business get recognized for those searching for an electrologist. At the end of the day, there really is such a high demand for electrologists, so attaining clients was not hard at all.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I own a business called Silk Electrolysis. Electrolysis is the only FDA approved way to permanently remove hair.
I perform treatments on clients who are sick of shaving, waxing, tweezing, threading, or getting laser treatments that aren’t helping.
A huge amount of my clientele struggle with PCOS: polycystic ovarian syndrome. This can cause androgens (like testosterone) to grow hair in places women don’t usually grow hair, like their face and chest.
I also treat unwanted hair of those who are in the transitioning process or clients who just have hair they don’t want!
I hope to be known for a business that feels safe, clean, and professional. At Silk Electrolysis, our clients will leave feeling more confidence in themselves.
What does success mean to you?
Success to me is a feeling of confidence in what you’ve created. Not just a goal achieved, but a risk taken and evidence of not giving up through the discomfort.
