Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan & Patty Horne.
Hi Jonathan & Patty, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Jonathan and Patty Horne purchased “Old Lincoln Storage” in the fall of 2023. It was in foreclosure. It was run down, mismanaged, and in disrepair for several years. The structure is well built, and the bones were good, so we decided to invest in this instead of building storage units somewhere else.
We have worked hard to restore it and upgrade it with new improvements, and we now have great security.
Jonathan does all the physical and maintenance work. His father was in construction, so he has the skills to take care of almost everything that comes along. Patty does the administrative and customer end of things.
We have had some interesting challenges. Initially it was a mystery trying to figure out who was in some of the units. Many were abandoned and several were just full of garbage. We eventually tracked down the owners and cleaned them up.
The grounds were full of waist high weeds. Jonathan cleaned, graded and graveled the property. The light system was repaired. We had security cameras installed so we are secure 24/7, and we have onsite security.
Everything can be done online – both renting and making payments.
Because we are a local couple, not national chain, we care personally about our tenants, and we have more flexibility with our pricing. We are currently offering the first 3 months 50% off select units and are always staying competitive.
Tooele, Stansbury Park and Erda families would find it worth the few extra minutes it takes to come to our Grantsville Storage.
It is called ‘Old Lincoln Storage’ because it is located on the Old Lincoln Highway, which was the first transcontinental road for automobiles in the United States. That was the original name, and we stuck with that.
We love being part of the Tooele County community and have found the people and businesses here to be exceptional.
As you know, we’re big fans of Old Lincoln Storage. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We take pride in our hands on approach. We are not a big, national chain. We are a local couple dedicated to offering safe, clean self storage for Grantsville and Tooele County . Jonathan is personally onsite almost every day and Patty keeps in contact with our tenants. We feel like our tenants are our friends. Patty was raised in a small farming community. We find the people of Grantsville and the surrounding area down to earth, wonderful, honest, hardworking people and families like we grew up with.
We are in this to stay – this is our dream.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
We knew it would be a lot of hard work to get these units in tip top shape. We are not afraid of hard work and enjoy keeping our property the best it can be.
