Today we’d like to introduce you to Katy Luxem
Hi Katy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started Big Dill Pickleball Co. because I couldn’t find pickleball paddles that reflected the fun, social, and recreational elements of the sport. That fun element is the reason people become addicted and obsessed with pickleball. It’s one of the most fun ways to get out, meet people, and get exercise for any age or fitness level. I founded the company in 2020 and have spent the past few years growing it and expanding our product range to include paddles, paddle sets, balls, and accessories like backpacks and paddle covers.
I have experienced a lot of growth as a business owner and a person. Because of the business, I even went back to school and got a master’s in business creation from the University of Utah. The business has also been featured in USA Today, The New York Times, and Forbes, which is pretty crazy.
I am still really excited and passionate about pickleball and my brand. Coming out of the pandemic was the perfect time to embrace pickleball and it has since exploded in popularity.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I had a background in marketing and branding, but I had to learn a lot of the other pieces of running my business as I went. For example, financial modeling and supply chain logistics were not something in my wheelhouse when I started.
As a parent to three kids, I have also found it difficult to balance my time. If I did everything on my to-do list, I’d never sleep.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
On a personal level, being a founder and CEO has given me a lot of confidence. I think a lot of women business owners might feel intimidated or scared to take the plunge, but I guarantee you are a lot smarter and more capable than you give yourself credit for.
