Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Schow.
Hi Kristen, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always loved my naturally curly hair—it was like my own personal trademark! When I lost a lot of it after having COVID, I felt so devastated and embarrassed, almost like I had lost a part of myself. As I searched for ways to feel beautiful and confident again, I discovered wigs…but quickly realized there were hardly any hands-on resources or beginner-friendly workshops/education out there.
That discovery was the spark that led to The Wig Collective—a warm and welcoming space where anyone can learn about wigs, change up their look, and really feel celebrated. Whether someone’s dealing with medical hair loss or simply in the mood to try something new, we offer support and guidance every step of the way. In 2024, I became a cranial prosthesis specialist so The Wig Collective could accept medical insurance for hair-loss-related needs, ensuring that help and empowerment are truly within reach for everyone.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s definitely been an interesting ride with its fair share of hurdles! One of my biggest challenges was finding a space that felt worlds away from a hospital setting—somewhere cozy and inviting, where everyone could feel totally at ease. It took a lot of searching, but I’m over the moon about our beautiful consultation area now.
I also had limited resources when I started, so there was plenty of trial and error. I tried just about every type of wig and fiber I could get my hands on, figuring out which ones offered the best quality, durability, and breathability (especially in the summer!). Each lesson learned helped me build a smoother experience for my clients. I’m still learning new things every day, but I feel like I’m off to a great start—and I’m excited for what’s next.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Wig Collective is all about making wig-wearing fun, accessible, and totally stress-free. With dedicated expertise in wig types, color matching, face shapes, and styling, I’m here to guide you every step of the way—so you’re never left guessing. We host “every-other-month” workshops covering everything from wig basics to styling and maintenance, giving you the confidence to feel amazing in your new look.
But that’s just the start. We offer both medical wigs and fashion wigs in a comfortable space where you can come in, try them on, ask questions, and find the perfect fit for your style or needs. And if you want to make a special event of it, we do wig parties where groups can come together, try on different looks, snap endless selfies, and just have a blast. Even better, we can turn those parties into fundraisers—for anyone with a friend going through chemo or navigating a recent diagnosis, a percentage of ticket sales can go toward funding your friend’s wig.
What really sets us apart is that personal touch and sense of community. We’re not just another online shop; we love working hands-on with our clients, celebrating individuality, and creating a safe, welcoming environment. We’re proud to empower everyone who walks through our doors to explore new looks and embrace the journey with confidence.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about Lehi is how it perfectly blends that small-town warmth with big-city opportunities. There’s so much growth and innovation here—from local businesses to tech startups—that you really feel the energetic spirit. Plus, the views of the mountains are just breathtaking! Everyone’s so supportive, and I love how easy it is to get involved in the community.
