Today we’d like to introduce you to Micah Foster.
Hi Micah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m (Micah) originally from Utah, but since graduating with my degree in hospitality I moved to California then Colorado then back to Utah working at and then consulting some of the best resorts in the world.
In 2017 I tried to rent a camping trailer and found every site or rental agency to be antiquated or overly complicated. With my years of experience operating resorts I thought, “I can do this better” so I purchased 1 trailer and the concept for Easy Camper Rental was born.
I wanted to create what I wish had existed when I tried to rent. People have an uncanny knack to overcomplicate everything so my focus has always been to make the rental process simple, easy, and the best value guaranteed.
Here is a quick YouTube video on how the rental process works: https://youtu.be/f6mq4k25MMk?si=j3gHV6XFNlsrF7PZ
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some aspects yes, and some very much no.
When I first started I was amazed there really wasn’t many rental operations available but if you throw a rock in any major city in Utah you hit 5 different RV dealerships. So I called them all and asked them if they rent and none did so I asked why. They all replied because insurance. Ironically insurance is one of the easiest parts of the business.
City bureaucracy is by far the most difficult. Since RV rental businesses are rare in most places there aren’t any provisions listed in city zoning for RV rental businesses so typically they loop it in with auto sales and rentals which is basically the I15 corridor which has basically all been developed for decades so any land in that location is extremely expensive then if you do find land the city gives you a list of requirements to buildout that is all cost prohibitive. For example, I had found some land in Syracuse, but they required a 10 foot perimeter concrete fence and it had to be setback 10 feet from the properly line so a massive portion of the land was unusable.
For the first 7 years I still worked my corporate job (quite June 2024) in order to scale without going into debt. Not unlike most small businesses the first 5 years scaling was a crazy amount of work.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
RV rental business specializing in travel trailer and motorhome rentals. Hundreds of 5-star reviews show that Easy Camper Rental provides the best value and easiest rental process.
Currently I am working to provide franchise opportunities to help others become successful, grow the brand, and most importantly provide a great service for all renters.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Although my wife has never been directly involved, due to the amount of hours I have had to put in she had to pick-up the slack at home, She also works full-time and has always supported me in all the business decisions.
My dad retired from his career in 2020 and now works for me which is a huge help as I can trust him more than I could any other employee.
