Today we’d like to introduce you to Quinci Cole.
Hi Quinci, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am fortunate enough that I fell into my career back in 2007 that became a passion for me. I started out at Petco as a bather not even knowing that pet grooming was a career path. After six months of being a bather, I was invited to attend Petco grooming Academy. I had many great mentors who got me to where I am today.
After grooming school, I was asked to take over the salon as a manager and did that for almost 5 years until I had my first child. Once my daughter was born, things shifted and changed, and I ended up grooming in my home so I could also be with my daughter.
Grooming from my home was never a thought of mine. However, here I am a little over 10 years later doing what I love and being able to be a present mom for my two kiddos. I have built a wonderful clientele that has followed me even when I moved from Farmington to South Weber. I truly love what I do and work to continue my education in my field as often as possible.
My passion, for my industry, goes further than just grooming. I am one of the founding members of Utah professional pet groomers Association. Which is a group dedicated to holding pet groomers to a higher standard here in Utah and nationally. This has been something I am honored to be a part of, and I love seeing all the Utah groomers who have chosen to take this step for themselves and the animals they serve.
I also have the privilege to work with one of the top trade, show companies for pet groomers, where I travel to their trade shows and I get to work with the best groomers nationwide. And I have a true passion for my career and love the many opportunities it has presented in my life. I would have never imagined 16 years ago that my life would lead me here.
My current home base salon is 150 ft.² and I groom three days a week as I have cut back over the past couple of years. My schedule and clients fit my life perfectly so I am able to still travel to trade shows and grow in other areas of my industry.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The start for me wasn’t as easy. Going home happened a little quicker than I was prepared for. As my salon was being completed. I worked with what I had in my unfinished basement. I would wash large dogs in my upstairs tub and then walk them down to be dried and groomed on my grooming table.
Working and finding a balance being a mom, and starting out a business was challenging at first, and sometimes still is even all these years later. I work on being open to changes and adapting to what’s happening around me. I feel this has made things go more smoothly when presented with a challenge.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Dog Spot – Pet Grooming?
My business is a one-on-one all-inclusive dog grooming salon. I believe all pets in my care deserve the best and so that is what they get. From customer service all the way down to the haircutting product, I want nothing but the best for the pups I pamper.
I personally feel what sets me apart from other groomers is the connection. I make the only with the dogs, but they’re owners as well. My clients know my family and I and cheer my kids and I on. Just as I do for theirs. I believe my customer service is one of the main reasons I have the amazing clients that I do.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Customer service and connection. I am taking someone that is considered their family and they are in-trusting me with their furry friend. I feel this connection and being my genuine self has got me to where I am today.
