Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Chandler.
Hi Scott, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I graduated from the University of Kentucky Dental School in 2001 and started my own private dental practice in Jerome, ID. After 9 years, a family emergency brought us to Payson where I practiced for 9 years. While in Payson, I was introduced to Holistic, or Biological Dentistry, which is a style of dentistry that focuses on how the mouth affects the rest of the body. I use more natural products and techniques and specialize in removing hidden infections and all metals from the mouth. I am blessed to see many of my patients heal from chronic issues, like autoimmune disorders, Lyme disease, thyroid issues and many more after cleaning out these hidden infections in the Jaws. Several years ago, I was invited to go to Switzerland twice to train with Dr. Ulrich Volz, a pioneer in Biological Dentistry. That experience and the knowledge gained there has taken my ability to help really sick people to a new level. Many of my patients travel to Utah from other states and countries, so I get to meet some amazing people. In 2018 I sold my practice in Payson and moved to Kamas with my wife and 11 children, practicing in Park City’s Jeremy Ranch area since that time. After 20 years of practicing solo, I was blessed to invite Dr. Matthew Geddes to join my practice in 2021.
The Park City area is a beautiful place to live and work, and I couldn’t be more happy to be here.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Things have been far from easy, starting and building up 3 dental practices. In each case there have been ups and downs and just when things were going really well, I found myself needing to move for various reasons and had to start over again. One of the hardest aspects of dentistry for my has been being a business owner. Finding new employees, hiring and firing has been one of my least favorite things to do as the owner. Downturns in the economy have happened a few times as well and that has caused some challenges. It is also a challenge to stay up on all of the advancements in the field of dentistry and requires a lot of continuing education. However, the travel is fun and I love to learn new procedures, or other ways to help my patients. I have also had some significant challenges from signing contracts that were not reviewed in depth by a good attorney. That has cost me a lot of money and time that maybe could have been avoided.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business is one of a few biological dental practices in Utah, so that makes us unique. I focus most on removing infected root canal teeth and placing metal-free zirconia implants. I also enjoy cleaning out chronic infections in the jaw-bone where wisdom teeth have been removed. These areas are called focal osteonecrosis, or cavitations and have a very strong correlation to heart attack, cancer, autoimmune issues and many other chronic diseases. It is very gratifying to see patients come in very ill and hear them report back after a few months how dramatically their lives have changed for the better. Our office is also trained in the safe removal of mercury-containing dental amalgam fillings. We offer a new patient special that includes the exam, digital x-rays and a 3D cone beam x-ray that is critical for diagnosing hidden infections. All of this is only $250.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My best advice is to find a mentor who is successful at what you are interested in, or a group of like-minded individuals to motivate you to do better. Keep learning, never allow yourself to get stagnant. Always keep striving to learn more and be better. I wish I had learned about Biological Dentistry earlier in my career instead of spending the first 10 years as a traditional dentist.
I also wish I had learned earlier to have a good attorney review contracts before signing.
