Community Highlights: Meet Scott Williams of Deep Creek Coffee Co

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Williams.

Hi Scott, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We were two friends who came from the guiding and hospitality industry hoping to create a place in a tourist town that felt like community…where visitors were welcomed like friends and locals are celebrities. Our motto is “Great Coffee | Real Food | Community” because they are the foundation of our daily lives. We started small, with coffee, smoothies and baked goods. A chorus of requests for breakfast items brought about our first (and still most popular) menu item, the BRO-rito. Our menu, and team, grew with the demand and we are now well-known for providing adventurous travelers with a delicious and nutritious start to their day. We love supporting local businesses and carry scores of products on our menu and our retail shelves to represent other small Utah businesses. Two years ago, we started our own roasting operation in the same building as our cafe, and visitors can watch the coffee they purchase be roasted and packaged while they peruse the shop. We love being part of our customers’ days and can’t think of anything better than coffee and adventure!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It isn’t uncommon for small businesses to struggle, especially those that are based in food and beverage. We are very “boot-strapped” and therefore it took more than several years working from pre-dawn until midnight before we saw our efforts create some form of stability for the business and our team. Constantly rising rent in a tourist town, volatile food costs, seasonal flow, housing shortages for staff, political events affecting the federal lands we rely on, the pandemic (of course), and climate change affecting coffee production, all consistently serve challenges to be overcome. We have an amazing team that stays dynamic and positive with all the shifts in the industry and we’re grateful to be in business for almost 13 years.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Deep Creek Coffee Co?

We are renowned for our commitment to quality and community, offering a range of specialties that set us apart in the local coffee scene. We’re celebrated for our friendly and attentive staff, and our passion for coffee and community.

At the heart of our offerings is a dedication to crafting outstanding coffee. We roast our coffee in-house, ensuring a a rich and flavorful coffee experience. Beyond traditional espresso drinks, we feature inventive beverages with house-made concoctions, like the Rosemary-Vanilla and White Rose Lattes.

Our beverage selection is complemented by house-made pastries, light breakfast and lunch options, trail-worthy snacks and intentional merchandise. We emphasize organic and allergy-friendly options, catering to diverse dietary preferences. Our most popular items include our BRO-rito, Avocado Toast and Soul (acai) Bowl, all crafted to provide nourishment for travelers embarking on adventures in and around Zion National Park.

The cafe’s ambiance enhances the overall guest experience with a cozy interior showcasing local artists, a social patio, and a shady upstairs deck with breathtaking views of Zion’s rock formations. Sunrise from the cafe creates a serene setting and we’re an ideal spot to get an adventure started or relax after a challenging day of hiking.

Our cafe is conveniently located a few minutes from the entrance to Zion National Park and we open early at 6:00 AM, making us an ideal stop before a day of exploration. We offer online ordering to help travelers avoid long wait times during peak hours.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
We were the typical “latch-key” kids…full of energy and always on an adventure…but absolutely expected to be responsible with the freedom we had. We loved stories, good food, wild places, friends and family, traveling, and good jokes. One of us was shy but fierce and the other was laid-back and the class clown. These dualities have made us great friends and business partners.
