Community Highlights: Meet Taylor Dietz of Renegade Chiropractic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Dietz.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I was 22 years old, I had really bad low back pain. To go from a sit to a stand position took me almost a minute. My wife, Meckenzie, and I were on a trip to Disneyland, and the only way I felt like I could get through the trip was by taking 800 mg of ibuprofen 3 to 5 times per day (essentially a post-surgical level of ibuprofen, I hadn’t had surgery! And I still wasn’t having a good time!) We were waiting in line for the Matterhorn, which is possibly the worst ride for back pain ever and Meckenzie looked at me and said we needed to do something different. So we called the chiropractor that Meckenzie went to growing up and when we got back to Utah I went in to figure out what was going on. He did an assessment, took some x-rays, and then I started getting adjusted. Sure enough, I started to feel and function better. At that particular time in my life that is where my chiropractic care started and stopped, I was feeling better so I could keep on playing sports and exercising the way that I wanted to exercise. This is what initially sparked my interest in chiropractic as a career, but I did not act on that spark. I was not a huge fan of school and did not want to be in school for that long. So instead of acting on the spark, I spent my time hopping from career path to career path, attending UVU on and off. I ended up becoming an electrician because I wanted to learn a practical skill that would be useful throughout my life (and it has been!) but ultimately I found myself to be delaying the inevitable. After working as an electrician for almost 2 years, I decided that working in construction wasn’t for me and I went back to UVU to get my undergrad credits and pre-reqs done to attend chiropractic college.

Once I finished this up, I ended up and was able to attend chiropractic college at Parker University in Dallas, Texas. When I attended my first trimester of chiropractic college my wife was pregnant with our second child. She was regularly adjusted throughout that pregnancy (and every pregnancy since) and we found that she was more comfortable during pregnancy, she went into labor on her own, and delivery was much smoother. To give you an idea for comparison in what I am about to say, our first kiddo was an induced hospital birth and Meckenzie was in the hospital for over 48 hours before our adorable daughter was born. Child number two was a much different experience. My wife’s body was so perfectly ready for the birth that we had an accidental home birth. The amazing part was being able to participate and watch in awe as Meckenzie’s body did exactly what it was supposed to do. This is what got me interested in chiropractic care for pregnant moms, babies, and kids (entire family chiropractic care). It is amazing what the body can do with the right information and I got to see that in action with my wife.

I started attending clubs and seminars that focused on moms and children. I learned that it is possible to not only help people that are in aches and pains, but I learned that when the nervous system is in proper alignment, then everything in the body works appropriately. The heart, the lungs, the stomach, literally everything. I became incredibly excited in my understanding of knowing that the brain controls every function of the body. I connected with the right mentors that helped fuel this passion and that helped me know that I am capable of bringing this knowledge here to my home community.

To make a long story short, when I learned what I learned and connected with the right people to help me know that Meckenzie and I could start this business we were able to do it. I love what I do and I love watching families grow healthy together. There is nothing like healthy kids growing up to be healthy adults. Our goal is to change the status quo for health in the area by helping people reach their full potential with neurologically-based chiropractic care.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being in a doctorate program is hard when you have kids and a wife–majority of students outside of Utah are in their early 20’s and don’t have to worry about family life. I didn’t have that luxury, I had to work hard at school, go home and spend time with my kids, and then work hard after the kids were in bed. All this while working on a business plan and learning about chiropractic for pregnant moms and kids was difficult, but totally worth it.

Finding the work and home life balance–there is a lot to do as a doctor and business owner. Making sure my 4 kids feel loved and appreciated is incredibly important to me.

Finding a location for our business–commercial real estate is just as competitive as residential real estate in Utah. It took us a while to find the right location to open up.

Having a baby in the first year of opening our business–our 4th child was born on June 22, 2022. His journey in getting here was way different than our other 3 kids. My wife had placenta previa which put her on bedrest for 5.5 weeks before she was born. We had to figure out how to run the business and make sure she was taking care of herself. He ended up being born at 34 weeks via a semi-emergency c-section. He was in the NICU for 2 weeks and then on oxygen at home for 2 weeks. I would say that the emotional stress and strain were hard and only about 2 months ago did things really start to feel normal.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a neurologically-based, family, chiropractic office. Neurologically-based means we focus on the nervous system because it is the master system of the body. Nothing works without the brain telling it to. When your nervous system is stressed it cannot communicate the right information to your muscles, heart, lungs, stomach, kidneys, bladder, reproductive system, etc, literally everything! Our goal is to remove stress from your nervous system and then step out of the way and watch as your body operates the way it is supposed to. I am Advanced Proficiency Certified in Torque Release Technique (TRT for short) which is a neurological approach to chiropractic care that focuses on where your nervous is stressed out the most, and then allows us to remove those stress points very specifically. I like to describe the technique like this: it is like that object lesson where you put big rocks in a jar, and then dump sand on top of the rocks, and the sand fills in the cracks between the rocks. The technique allows us to take care of the largest stress points to your nervous system and then take care of the rest as they appear (fill in the cracks).

We love serving pregnant moms and their kids. Pregnant moms find that they are more comfortable throughout pregnancy when they are under consistent chiropractic care and they have decreased labor discomforts and labor times. I am a Webster-certified chiropractor through ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association). Webster Technique helps assess the neurology of the pelvis primarily for pregnant moms to ensure pregnancy, labor, and delivery go as smoothly as possible.

We love serving infants and children. Babies struggling with things like colic, infantile reflux, difficulty breastfeeding, constipation, and more benefit greatly from consistent chiropractic care. Kids struggling with things like ADD/ADHD, bedwetting, anxiety, sensory issues and more benefit greatly from consistent chiropractic care as well. Our bodies can either be growth or protection, they cannot focus on both, so when we remove the stress from the nervous system with consistent chiropractic care, then kids move from surviving to thriving. As mentioned above I am a member of the ICPA and I have a Certificate of Proficiency in Pediatric and Family Chiropractic through the Pediatric Experience and Life University. Essentially I have participated in lots of hours (combined between the 2 groups over 160+ hours) of postgraduate education to serve families and their kids.

Ultimately, we are a whole family practice with a special focus on the nervous system. We utilize NASA-certified technology to get an exact read of your nervous system so we know how to approach your chiropractic care. Our goal is to not only get you feeling well in the moment but to help you function well for a lifetime.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
We are always looking to connect with more midwives, doulas, lactation specialists, and anyone who supports holistic health and healing.

Most midwives understand the benefit of regular chiropractic care for their pregnant moms but for those that do not, I would love to sit down with them and discuss how I can support their pregnant moms. I would love to connect with doulas for the same reason.

Lactation specialists/consultants deal with a lot of stuff. Babies that struggle with feeding appropriately might be dealing with tongue tie issues, infant torticollis, infantile reflux, or other issues associated with breastfeeding. When kids are adjusted regularly, the improvements to feeding seem to be much quicker.
