Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaronee. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Aaronee has been on the radio for 20+ years in St George Utah. (About 1.5 hours from Las Vegas).
She has tried just about every role in the industry, to understand how the whole works. She started in Promotions/Marketing and sales where she created big promotions for her clients that became station events. She started on air with the top 40 stations’ entertainment report.
She missed Alternative music from SLC so she pitched the format to the owner and quickly became the PD/MD of the new Alternative music station in town, The Planet. She helped build the #1 Country Music station in town (7 years running before she quit to have her 3 children) and now works for the direct competitor.
She has also been the PD/MD of Star 98 a Hot AC station and now is the PD/MD/Morning Show Co-Host of New Country 94.9 with DJ and Aaron in the morning. Watch them on Facebook live @ New Country 94.9 on Facebook. Community is EVERYTHING and the Southern Utah community is one of the BEST!
She is on-air on radio stations all over the US and even does the commercials for Burger King Nassau. She believes that Radio is magical. She loves brainstorming with businesses to come up with great marketing and PR.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Radio is fun, but the lack of funding and long days can get to you. You have to really focus on your passion and balance your life or radio will take over everything. It is hard because it is your name and your face and your voice at the forefront of every promotion.
So if something goes wrong, even if it is in no way your fault, people still associate you with failure. Being able to say no, to unrealistic high expectations and never-ending morphing challenges is a necessity. Being able to communicate with clients and tell them that their ideas might not work well is a must.
But, It can create a great relationship where the client actually respects you more and starts to trust your professional judgment. If you are going to hire a professional, get one you can trust and then let them do their job.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I love the creative side of Radio! I love the marketing and promotions I get to create with great clients! We are constantly testing the waters of what works LIVE on the air and what works on social media. Creating great contests that get our listeners and followers to engage is energizing.
By setting expectations and working hard, I have learned to truly make WIN-WIN-WIN scenarios. We do live chats on Facebook and we get great comments and better feedback than even the much larger markets do! Our community is amazing. We would not be able to do what we do without great support.
Looking for ways to serve and give back keeps you grounded and connected to the life of your community.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Family, friends your health, and your community are the most important things in life. Anyone that repeatedly asks you to put anything else first, is wrong. Respectfully stand up for yourself EVERYTIME. Be you, constantly learning and growing and great things will come.
